Friday randoms?

Or is that what the roll call is? I need to vent. I worked hard to accommodate my assistant's request for reduced hours when she came back from mat leave. JUST hired a part time person to pick up the hours she reduced. Now she is taking another job. Leaving us stuck . . . do we let the new person go and hire someone full time or hope we can find someone qualified who wants to work the reduced hours? Ugh. Something similar happened to me last time I tried to make accommodations for a staff person. Makes me really not want to be flexible.

Re: Friday randoms?

  • That is frustrating and it definitely sucks for you.  You were able to find one part time qualified person to fill in the hours the quitter didn't want to work, so maybe you could find another?  I understand that finding good people is hard to do, but I also respect individuals needing to do what's best for them

    Signed,

Someone who will probably making be making their boss unhappy (although, mine is really not very flexible at all).

  • Why must people have to work the friday of a holiday weekend??!!!

Would the new person be interested in taking on the departing lady's hours?

I just thought of this as well.

  • I'll let you know if we post the position. The new person already has another job, so really doesn't want more hours. Plus she was hired in at a lower grade than what the remaining hours are for, if that makes sense. Not sure she has the skills to do what the person quitting has been doing.

Good luck! I do try to be flexible, and normally this wouldn't bother me except we JUST went through the hiring process for the other person. If she wasn't sure she was going to be sticking around, it would have been nice to know. I want to be fair to the new person we just hired.
