If you have and/or you use one. PLEASE STOP. This was advertised on Oprah a while back and alot of people started using them. You fill this pot with warm water and sea salt and run in through your nose to clear your nasal passages. It works well for allergies and stuffy noses.
Well about a month ago my mom's friend Cheryl, passed out in her home and was rushed to the hospital. She got a bacterial infection in her BRAIN. The cause... she had a horrible sinus infection and was using the netty pot a couple times a day. What it did was break down her mucous membrane in her sinuses that lead to her brain.
She has now lost sight in her left eye, her right eye is fuzzy, lost use of her left arm, her right arm works so she can eat and she lost use of her legs. She has been in the hospital for the last month and now they are going to be transporting her to a rehabilitation center.
She has told everyone to THROW AWAY YOUR NETTI POTS!
Just thought I'd pass along the info. The story is alot longer but I didn't think you all would want to hear the whole thing.

Re: Anyone ever heard of the Netti Pot?
I use one all the time.
Netti pot + trash can = Gone!
OMG! ?I have never heard of them but wow!
You know a squirt of simple saline, sold OTC and used for babies works just as fine and you won't get any of that stuff.
I feel so bad for her. ?Oprah really needs to stop putting thing on her show!?
My doctor prescribed a netti pot of me when i was sick and i used it.
It greatly helped.
thanks jayme for the info! That is scary!!!!!
It says to not use it more than 2 times a day. Was she using it more than that???
Dh uses the Neilmed sinus rinse, which is like a squirty bottle that does the same thing --it comes with individual packets of the saline rinse solution and advises against mixing your own with tap water/table/sea salt b/c of the risk of introducing bacteria. It does make sense that prolonged use could wear away at mucus membranes though.
My Dr. recc. the sinus rinse bottle when I was PG and congested, to flush out the excess gunk, but I wouldn't use it for long-term relief.
that's really scary.
I'll tell DH to toss his (he hasnt been using it often, anyway!)
oh yeah and i never tried it but man that is scary.
Thank you for posting this and sorry to hear about what happened.
Prayers for her... ;(?
