Re: Curious. Question.

  • This insinuates that we all have children. We all do not.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.

I apologize I did think of that, but I figured they would just say none or something. I wanted an idea of at what age people on here most specifically people associated with military life chose(or not) to start a family. Sorry for the confusion.

A lot of different factors play into that.  For example, I should have had my first at 20.  But I lost that baby early on.  Also, you have to consider the age that the person got married at.  And, with the constant change of schedules, it may take longer for some couples to concieve.

Edited because I didn't complete my thoughts.

I wasn't involved with military life when I had my first child at 20.

  • All very good points. Please excuse my ignorance. I should have worded it better.

  • I am 24 and we most likely will start trying for our first within the next year in a half or so. At this point it is dependent on me getting a better paying job. And if that's the case E might become a stay at home dad if we can swing it. I'm still in the application stages of the job at this point and if I get it I want to be there at least a year before we try having a baby.

  • DH was 21 when his daughter was born.  We don't have any children together.  I'm almost 28.

  • I was 37 when my son was born, my DH was 35.

I was 34 and DH was 32 when we got married--first marriage for both of us. We are not the norm when it comes to marriage and family, military affiliated or not. While I think waiting to get married and start a family is generally a good idea, I would not advocate waiting as long as we did. Though we did not purposely wait, we met "later" than most. Once we started dating, we moved rather quickly. While rushing is never advisable, because of the nature of our relationship and our maturity, it was less concerning and not alarming to our family and friends. We had hoped to start our family sooner than we did, but having three years as a couple before the birth of our son was beneficial for us (we could have done without the stress of infertility and deployment though. . . ).

  • 36. I didn't get married until 31 though. We would have tried earlier, but deployments stood in the way.
  • No children yet but we are in the TTC stage right now. Were both 24.

  • No children we have been TTCing for a year.  We have been married for one and together for 5 (2 and a half years were before he joined).  I am 23.  I am young i know by most people's standards.
  • 25, but my birthday is a week after my due date, so possibly 26.

  • 27 and no kids.

I was 21 when I got my dog, and she's pretty much my child.  :P

  • 27 for the first, 29 for the second
  • I was 34 when I had DD which was just last year, this is my second marriage but I have always known that I wanted to wait until I was older to have a child, especially with all the moving around I was doing.

  • We have no kids, but are talking about stopping prevention when DH returns from his impending deployment, which will be his last. I will be 24 when he returns and we begin to try.

I only have one friend here who has no kids or is not currently pregnant, and many of my friends (generally aged between 22 and 25) have more than one child.

ETA: I did get pregnant when I'd just turned 22 (at nearly two years of marriage), but miscarried. It was not a planned pregnancy, though.

  • I will be 24 when my first is born later this year
