XP: Thoughts and Prayers Please

I just found out that my former boss's brother died yesterday on the Merced River in Yosemite trying to save a person that was drowning. He was an ER doctor so it was very much in his nature to put others before himself. His wife who is a PA went in after him and almost died but made it out okay. They have twin girls that are going to be 3 next month. If you could just send the family some thoughts and prayers I would greatly appericate it. I know the whole family  very well and G was such a kind kind man and a wonderful daddy to those girls. Thank you.

Re: XP: Thoughts and Prayers Please

  • Just read that article.  Sad situation.  Over 2 days to go around...I wonder if they even had enough provisions to go around...and they were SO close to the trailhead (2.5 miles)
  • Soooo many people have been rescued from the rivers and it's only July 1. There were some rafters that got swept up yesterday afternoon and the last person didn't get rescued until 1 am this morning. Two Merced county sheriff deputies almost drowned trying to save the rafters.

On the local news earlier, they were interviewing a guy who almost took his 14 year old son rafting in the river and a sheriff deputy convinced him to leave his son on shore. The guy said something to the tune of "I know how to swim so I'm not worried" and a few minutes later his raft capsized and he almost drowned. Now there are sheriff deputies patrolling parts of the Merced river and arresting people who enter the river. They've even closed the Kings River that runs through Fresno County because there's too much water being released from the dam. People don't realize just how fast and cold those rivers are.

My thoughts and prayers are with that family.

  • Seriously! Six people so far this season have drowned in our four-county area. One guy was wearing a life jacket. I can't believe people still insist on going to the rivers when they're this fast and full. Be safe out there, folks.
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • So so sad. Many prayers for them.
  • Wow, that is so sad. I'll definitely think of the family. I knew 2 teens when I was in high school who drowned. One I had known since I was a child. She was trying to cross a rapids in the Sierra. The other was a freshman boy who was fishing and slipped. Definitely stay safe in the water this summer!!
