Visiting the La area with the family next week...suggestions?

Hello! I notice this board doesn't get much activity, but I'm coming to La for 8 days with my family DS is 6 and DD is 2.5. We are doing Disney for 3 days but I would like suggestions on family friendly things to do the other 5 days we are there. I'd like one beach day as well so if you could recommend a nice beach within an hour or so of the LA/Anaheim area I'd greatly appreciate it. TIA ladies! =0)

Re: Visiting the La area with the family next week...suggestions?

  • Hi!! So I know you said next week, but I'm not positive of your timeline. So just a warning-- they will be doing construction that will require the closure of a 10 mile stretch of a major freeway (405) from West LA to the San Fernando Valley that will start on Friday the 15th and is supposed to be done by 5am on the 18th. This is expected to cause all sorts of back ups and delays as people try to find side streets and alternate routes.

That said--Santa Monica is awesome. There is a pier with a small amusement park as well as the beach. Redondo Beach is also nice.

Other places that are fun with kids are :

    • California Science Center
    • Peterson Automotive Museum (the entire 3rd floor is hands on for kids)
    • LaBrea Tar Pits
    • The Original Farmer's Market has a bunch of cool food stalls and little shops to look at. It's attached to The Grove which is basically an outdoor shopping area, but it does also have a cool "dancing" fountain that kids and adults seem to enjoy.

Good luck and have a great time!! Enjoy LA!
