anyone with SOS experience?

H is going soon, and we just found out that I'm permitted to go with him.  I'm honestly leaning against it, and H is somewhat ambivalent.  He'd love for me to be there since, once again, we've been apart for a long time.  I'll get to see him the week before he goes, but that's it.

I know there's lots of classwork and studying and group stuff.  It's not how I occupy all my time alone that I'm worried about.  If I could make it for 5 months in Kunsan, I can pretty much make it anywhere.  Plus, it would give me an opportunity to travel and see some people nearby that I haven't seen in a long time b/c I've lived so far away.  I'm not anticipating leaving Hawaii all that often to be visiting my southern friends ;)

So, can anyone give me an understanding of 1) the anticipated schedule 2) if it's a negative or positive for H from an appearance perspective if I'm there and 3) food.  This is the biggest, actually.  From reading online, it looks like couples don't get cooking facilities but families do.  I don't think I could eat out for 4 weeks straight.  Not being able to cook, or at least have access to healthy inexpensive food, would be a dealbreaker.

At first, we thought I'd have a kitchen, and H was all excited that I could host all sorts of dinners or cocktail parties.  I'm really good at bribing people to like me with food :)  But, if I'm having to eat fast food or chain restaurants most of the time, people would pretty much despise me for my "special needs" as someone once coined my mostly veg mostly healthy diet.

Re: anyone with SOS experience?

  • I don't know about SOS because I'm in the Army.  However, DH came with me and lived in a hotel with me for several months while I was in school.  The room had a microfridge and a microwave and we managed to get by on cereal, sandwiches, and microwavable meals.  It's not ideal but I take the approach that while in the military, maximizing your time with your SO is important.  Do you know if you'll have a fridge and microwave?  I mean, you can cook pasta and steam veggies in a microwave.  Or you could even buy a little portable steamer.  Those things can even cook fish and chicken.
