any ideas how to get rid of ants? Raid for ants and roaches did not work! TIA!

(they seem to congregate around the dishwasher)

We used the ant bait things. Plus lots of wiping them up. It took a week or two, but they are totally gone now (and it's been years). Lowes also has ant stakes that you can put around your house that are pretty much the same as the bait things. Make sure that there aren't any crumbs or sticky-ness around the dishwasher if that's where they are going.

I learned the hard way that smashing them doesn't make them disappear. I used soap and water, which sort of worked for a while, but ultimately, we ended up getting an exterminator.

We use Terro.  You can buy it at lowes or home depot.  It works well, they swarm it and then take it home to kill the others.  You may have to do it multiple times a year but it does work.  You can make it with sugar, water and borax as well.  We have found way more ants this year because of the rainy weather this spring/summer.

They like water, so that's why they end up near the dishwasher. We tried to DIY ant-killing and finally gave up and called an exterminator. We've been really happy with the results.

I second Terro and also those liquid gel ant baits.

Also look for any obvious points of entry and seal them.

They love water, crumbs, etc.  I just gave up trying to fight them and got an exterminator.  Once we got rid of the problem outside they haven't been coming inside.

We adore Terro. It works well and is relatively eco-friendly/non-hazardous.
