Hi Ladies,
My husband is looking at getting a job transfer to KC from Wisconsin. I was looking at real estate ads, and noticed the cost of living is slightly lower..but that was just from a quick glance at the real estate. I am wondering what neighborhoods are desirable. The office that my husband is being transferred to is not even established yet, so I can't give that info. Also, how big (geographically) is KC? I have never been, so I feel like I have a lot to learn. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Re: Possibly moving to KC
Kansas City is a great place to live. It is very spread out- many suburbs such as Lee's Summit, Liberty, Overland Park, Prairie Village, etc. You will definitely be able to find whatever type of housing you are looking for because KC has a little bit of everything.
We live in the northland and are very happy here. There are great schools and we are a quick drive to downtown, the airport, the plaza, Zona Rosa; anywhere we could want to go is a 20 minute drive.
Good luck and maybe once you are able to narrow down the area, post again and we can give more specific suggestions

Thanks ladies for your help, I will definitely post again once I know something a bit more concrete. I am in a bit of shock right now, as I have only lived in WI! Melissa, thanks for the comparision to Milwaukee. One more question, is the cost of living similar to Milwaukee? We are about 45 minutes north of Milwaukee now, and my husband is hoping to drive less in KC, which sounds like is very doable. Thanks again ladies!
There are a lot of nice areas of KC! Let us know which "suburb" your DH's office is in when he gets more info and we can share a lot more info.
I live in Liberty which I love. It's about 15-20 minutes North of the downtown area. I can get pretty much anywhere I want to go (shopping, entertainment, etc) within 20 minutes. The school district in Liberty is also very highly rated (not sure if you have kids or plan on having kids).
I'm a teacher, but do real estate on the side. I'd love to help you out more if you need me to. Email me at beth.m.freeman at gmail. There are SO many steals right now! My husband and I aren't even really looking to move, but have been tempted to buy some of the foreclosures we've seen.
Overall COL is pretty comparable to MKE, but you can find some great houses for less here then what you might be able to find them up there. I grew up in Whitefish Bay so compared to that it is much better. :-) All the different "suburbs" have there good and not so good areas just like anywhere else.
