How to clean SS

Hey girls,

I am not a regular on this board, but y'all are the "experts" and I could use some help. My DH and I recently moved into a new home with all stainless steel appliances. They are beautiful, but they are a pain to clean! Every little water drop shows! I tried windex but it didn't work. Then I bought Method's SS cleaner, and that didn't really work either. I have heard that Pledge will take the streaks out, but I only have Method's wood cleaner, not Pledge.

Before I randomly buy another SS cleaner, do you girls have any tried and true methods I can try? Oh, and I prefer more natural cleaners, but I'm open to any suggestion.

Thanks!

Re: How to clean SS

  • ? had everything SS in my old place and now only have the SS stove. I learned to live with stains for the most part. When I do want to get it shiny my prefferred way is first using a hand held steam cleaner, use a rag to go over it afterwards, then use any type of SS cleaner with paper towel. That was the main issue. Clean with steam and whatever rag or sponge or whatever you like, then 'polish' with SS cleaner and paper towel in a circular motion.

It's a PITA, really, so learn to live with marks and only polish when you want it pretty for company.

Edit: I now see you like to use natural cleaners. I've never even bothered. The only things that work smell like they'd be toxic. They work though.

  • I use diluted white vinegar (about 50/50 water) and a microfiber cloth - seems to work pretty well for me, but I'm not that picky about smudges...

  • I am with ya. They are hard to keep clean. My mom swears by Windex for hers but I am afraid to try it. I fear it will take off the finish. I use a cleaner/polish made by Whirlpool and it works good but I don't like having to buy it online all the time. However, it does work. I apply with a cloth let it sit for a minute and then wipe off with another lintless cloth.
