Two weeks ago my garden club and another nearby garden club had our annual combined garden tour event followed by a pot luck dinner (which is geared toward using fruits and veggies from your garden). We started out at the home of one of the Master gardeners from my club.
Her and her husband grow grape vines and sell some of the grapes to a local winery. The rest they use to make their own wine.
Not shown is their 1/2 acre native prairie which didn't have much blooming at the time, their veggie garden, and their chicken coop.
Then we drove way out into the country to see the veggie garden of an elderly couple who keep their yard, barn, and home in pristine condition.
They are neighbors with a lady who owns 35 acres of land which includes two vineries, sheep pasture, a spring feed pond, and a gazebo. She maintains the whole place by herself!
What an awesome view to wake up to every morning!
She has a dwarf breed of sheep that someday she wants to let graze between her vines so she won't have to mow on the steep hill.
The gazebo has electricity so it has lights and a refrigerator. We sat outside for dinner though to watch the wildlife. There were baby geese on the pond, a beaver who we must have startled, and lots of bats that did an excellent job of keeping the bugs down.
Hope you like the pictures!

Gorgeous!
I might have to sign up for one of our local garden tours someday. Once I get the yard to a point that I won't die of garden envy.
Did you get any copy-able ideas?
"The meek shall inherit the earth" isn't about children. It's about deer. We're all going to get messed the fuckup by a bunch of cloned super-deer.- samfish2bcrab
Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
Well I had already seen the first garden as she's a member of my club. I always get a lot of great ideas from her though. Typically it's a new-to-me shade plant I've never seen before. I also really like her containers. Currently I don't have any but someday when I do I'm sure she'll be a good resource just look at how many gorgeous containers she has! I also really like her use of sculptures and fountains throughout the landscape. I've never really liked many mainstream garden sculptures (a looking ball on a stand, an overly pudgy cherub, a cartoon looking animal that's smiling at you, etc.) they are just NMS. But she had some more grown-up looking sculptures and in the mass of perennials they really created a good focal point all year round. In the picture with her front door you can see a tall, sleek looking water fountain too that I liked. She got the fountain at Costco for a good deal and the sculptures at a local greenhouse that discounts them in the fall. I'll have to check them out! Similarly I really liked the crane sculpture in the second garden.
Next Thursday I'm going on another garden tour with some of my garden club members. We're going to see 4 very different gardens one of which is at a Frank Lloyd Wright house I've always wanted to see. There are even more garden tours this weekend that you have to pay for through a local gardens, conservancy, and society but I'll be at a match this weekend.
Oooh more pictures please! I love this..wish I could do something like this but it's so hard in Florida because if they can beat the summer heat most of them won't last the frost.
We'll see my DSLR just broke and I'm not sure if it can be fixed in time.
Taliesin?
Nice photos! Such ideas...

Ha no that is over in Spring Green. That would be way more than just a garden tour. I was just there two weekends ago actually. I happened to be in the area so I stopped by the FLW bookstore/welcome center. It's the 100th anniversary of Taliesin this year so the tours were packed. I might take a tour of it after Labor Day or next year. We used to go there all the time as school kids so it's been a while.
No we're going to see Jacobs II over in Middleton. It was the second home he built for the prominent Jacobs family and at the time it was way out in the country. Since then it's been surrounded by residential developments but they still own a nice big piece of land that is a little oasis in an otherwise urban area.
