How early do you start Christmas/Hanukkah shopping?

I've noticed that some stores are already getting ready to put their Christmas displays up and I am sure some already have.  When I worked at Hallmark when I was 15-17 I remember putting out all of the ornaments in July and actually having people waiting in line outside of the store to see them.  I also worked at Michael's in my late teens/early 20's and all of the Christmas merchandise would start coming in before Easter was even over.

Personally I always wait until December to start my shopping, maybe late November, but never before Thanksgiving.  Halloween and Thanksgiving are my two favorite holidays and I feel like they always get rushed due to Christmas coming up, so I stand strong and refuse to start my holiday shopping until I've gave my pumpkins and turkeys the respect they deserve.

So how about you?  Have you started shopping yet?  Do you like to wait until December like I do?  Are you a last minute shopper out on Christmas Eve?

Me, my mom, aunts and cousins have a yearly shopping weekend the beginning of november where we hit up outlets and malls and shops for 3 days. That's usually when I start my shopping.

  • I voted other.  If I see something perfect for someone I pick it up no matter what time of year.  I do end up getting most of the stuff in November/December, but getting some stuff early softens the blow.

  • it depends on the year and what type of gifts, this year I'm making his grandma a quilt so that is already in progress...I'm also hoping to finish a quilt top that my great aunt made for my mom so again it will need to be started really early.  I'm also thinking some things from Alaska may be Christmas gifts, but for the most part I wait until November/December.  My mom, my friend, and her mom(who used to be my baby-sitter) go once a year usually in November as well

I start usually around Canadian Thanksgiving (mid-October), but if I see something perfect earlier than that, I'll pick it up.

  • We do a name drawing early November to see who were going to be buying for, so I never know who were going to get till then so i tend to wait till after turkey day.

This is what I typically do every year, but with a bulk of it on Black Friday.  This year I am due a few days before Christmas.  I am thinking that we will need to do more of if we see something that is perfect for someone pick it up type of shopping!

  • I do all of my shopping online now that everyone I shop for is out of state except for DH and my mom.  Although I still by their gifts online too since its usually cheaper and shipping is always free after thanksgiving.  I tend to start saving $ in early Nov and go from there with my shopping.
  • I tend to do most of my shopping on Black Friday, but if I see something before then that is perfect for someone I will get it.

  • I'm with Christie (although I voted a few months before); if I see something anytime of year that is a good gift; I'll either buy it then or write it down...especially since my family is so picky/hard to shop for!

Honestly any BF shopping I do, is usually for myself!!

This.  Though through most of my 20s I did most of my shopping the week before Christmas because I usually had class and finals up until then or I lived out of down and it was easier to just wait till I got to Buffalo to do my shopping so that I didn't have to limit myself to what would fit in my suitcase.

This. But if I am travelling overseas or a unique place, I try to pick up gifts then. I go over my list after Thanksgiving and then actively work on remaining gifts needed.

  • My family and I start shooping on black friday.
