best Tablet -- not an iPad

Is there such a device?

How much of a p.i.t.a. would it be to make iPad compatible with other non Apple gagets?

Dh is finally graduating from college & I'd like to get him a tablet for his commute.  The laptop is too bulky.

But if we travel & he wants to bring it, I want to make sure it's functional for me so we don't have to bring too many toys.

TIA.

I have a Xoom and I love it.  If you don't want to spend a ton of money (i.e., iPad-style) the Nook Color is a pretty good alternative.  The Acer Transformer is supposed to be pretty good, and you can get a keyboard to attach it to.

  • I just got the Samsung Galaxy and am really happy with it. It is smaller then the ipad so is easier to take every where.

  • I have the Asus Transformer and I love it! I got the keyboard as well.

I have a Droid phone, so when i booted up the tablet, all my apps from the Droid that were compatible with the tablet automatically loaded on there!

  • I have a nook color and absolutely love it. Only downside to them is that they don't offer "3G" so you deal with spotty wireless to use apps and the internet. Awesome reader and the new apps are making it even better; however the browser isn't great IMO.
  • I would suggest that you go for Nook Color. Although it?s an eBook like kindle. But when you go through its feature, it?s no way less than tablet. It?s got touch screen, you can watch video, surf net, you can play music & games and you can read books.  Nook is only $249 half of iPad $500. Check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R390Ey9Ldjg
