I'm trying not to get mad...

We are leaving for the Bahamas in 3wks and we still don't have someone to keep the dogs. We can keep them in a kennel, but I really, really, really don't want to.

I talked to my sister 2wks ago and she said she would come and stay..I talked to her yesterday and now she can't/won't. (awesome).

So DH said he had asked MIL a while ago, and never told her that my sister was going to keep them. He just left it as it was.

I find out today that MIL is in the hospital...again....via FB...again (so this just adds to my frustration)..

So I text her to find out whats going on, and while we are talking she tells me that she was planning on going back to work on  the 18th. Which is great, but she can't keep the dogs if she is working. so when was she planning on telling us that she couldn't keep the dogs?

I'm trying not to get mad, because it's my own fault for having dogs, but why can't other people just let me know what is going on.

  • I'm not sure if I fully understand. Why can't she keep the dogs if she goes back to work? Aren't they home alone while you & your H are working? Have you looked into cage free dog kennels?

She is a truck driver... she won't be home. and my BIL works from 3pm-1am , and my grandmother-in law can not handle them on her own (they all live together)..

I'm not worried about them being in a crate.. I just don't want to take them somewhere.. The places that we've looked at will cost us around $300, and Diva is a little aggressive towards other female/small dogs..

  • Ok, that makes more sense. How about a dog sitter that comes to your house?

I'm working on finding one... but DH doesn't want strangers in our house..so that's kind of a problem. I've emailed two people, and my Mom is going to ask her friends daughter tomorrow .. we'll see. I'm not holding my breath.

  • I know how frustrating it can be when you are going out of town and you have dogs.  If you can find a sitter that will come to your home that seems to work better especially when you have more than one animal.  Good Luck!
  • Not sure how many dogs you have and how many nights you'll be gone but might be worth a call to where I board/daycare my dog.  They are seriously WONDERFUL, and do cage-free boarding.  They have huge shaded yards and agility courses for different sizes and breeds.  I think it's 25/night for boarding and they offer discounts for more than one dog.

  • I posted on your FB but in case you didn't see it.. My friend Kel dog sits for a few people, and she is not expensive at all. She was three dogs of her own and lives in NPR, so it wouldn't be a huge drive. I can ask her if she is interested, if you are.
  • Laura, I wrote you back on FB.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I am looking for someone that will come & stay at our house..which makes it that much more difficult.

We will board them somewhere if we have to, but that's a last resort.

    =)
