question from a Detroit nestie- restaurant rec

BF and I will be spending a weekend in GR next month and are looking for restaurant recs. I went to GVSU and never spent any time in downtown GR but I remember The BOB and Mojos, though I never ate at either one. Any other suggestions, reasonably priced, close to downtown? Also, is Yesterdog still open? Thanks!!

Re: question from a Detroit nestie- restaurant rec

  • Yep, Yesterdog is still open. What type of food are you interested in? There are so many options now!
  • We like trying new places & types of food. BF is not big into sushi but otherwise we're open to any suggestions especially if people rave about the food/atmosphere! We aren't big drinkers, so bar type places are ok if they have great food but we don't necessarily plan on finding anywhere for drinks. Thanks for the yesterdog info!
  • It'd definitely help to know what kind of food/atmosphere you're looking for.

I'd highly suggest Marie Catrib's (mostly local foods, LOVE this place.)

Check out Yelp... quite a few reviews for many GR restaurants.

Many people rave about San Chez although I've not been.

MC's isn't open very late, though, if you're going for dinner.

We like San Chez--tapas, fun for tasting lots of new and different things--and The Electric Cheetah (on Wealthy) or Uncle Cheetah's Soup Shop for lunch, Gilly's in the BOB, Cherry Deli for lunch or early supper (gazpacho is the BEST), and so many others... :)

  • For a downtown restaurant, maybe Bistro Bella Vita.

Just east of downtown, Winchester or if you want hot dogs Johnny B'z Dogs and more.

Lots of good restaurants to choose from. Have fun!

  • I second Marie Catrib's (cafe-style..maybe for lunch), San Chez (lively, laid back) and Bistro Bella Vita (slightly more fancy).  Hop Cat is a great bar and apparently they have really good food, too.  Have fun!

  • For downtown restaurants, I recommend Bistro Bella Vita, Bull's Head, Angel's Thai Cafe, and Big O's (awesome pizza!).

    Have fun!
