Spam for lunch!

So I've had this can of Spam sitting in my cabinet for I don't know how long, so I think since I bought the damn thing, I might as well crack it open.

It's not half bad! It's really salty and bit mushy, but if you fry it in a non-stick pan it's pretty good. I'll bet the low-sodium variety would be phenomenal in macaroni-and-cheese, with a few chopped tomatoes and onion.

Of course, I only ate a slice of it on a bun. What to do with the rest of the block is anybody's guess b/c DH won't eat it. I'll bet I could hide it in a spam and broccoli and cheese quiche! Or spam omelette. Or the aforementioned mac and cheese. Or sauteed with onions and butter and tossed with rotini. If I had seaweed I could make Spam musubi, like Back Home in Lahaina serves....

(spammity spam, wonderful spam.....)

Re: Spam for lunch!

  • I heart spam!  LOL!  Love me some spam musubi!  Anytime.  Anywhere!

I've been in the same exact situation as you, so I cubed it and made fried rice...steamed rice, soy sauce, (canned) mixed veggies.  The beauty of this was that the rice and veggies were left overs I had in the fridge.  Woohoo!

Quiche, omelette...almost anything with eggs, come to think of it.  LOL!

  • When I was in Maui a few weeks ago I had some lovely eggs benedict, except instead of the slice of ham it had a yummy spam hash.  It was delish...
  • I lived in Hawaii for 6 years and I still can't stomach the stuff!  Too salty!  Plus the look and smell of it when it's coming out of the can. Ick!  That just means more for you!  I've got a recipe for a spam cake, lol, if you're feeling adventerous.

I'll take a hot dog musubi though, god...that sounds soooo good.

  • LOL! ?I have never had spam.
  • I personally like the lower sodium Spam better.  DH would usually fry up some spam slices and eggs and serve it with steamed rice for breakfast.
