Suggestions on moving to coastal SC?

Hey ladies! I'm looking for some advice and or/suggestions. I live in MA but my family lives in SC and we're thinking of possibly relocating. We live on Caoe Cod and DH is a huge fisherman and lobsterman so my initial thought was near the coast somewhere. We've been go Charleston but don't think we'd move there. We'd be looking for a small, coastal town feel. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Now if you want really small.. McClellanville in Charleston County.

or there's Georgetown and  Edisto Beach

  • I am going to go against the person below and say definitely NOT Beaufort. I grew up there.

We moved from Beaufort to Charleston and have lived in various areas of Charleston. For what you're looking for, I would suggest some of the coastal areas around Charleston - James Island, John's Island, Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, Mt. Pleasant, Wadmalaw, Awendaw, Edisto Island, Kiawah Island - It all depends on your price range, too. Most of the island areas are pretty expensive.

  • Bluffton

You'd be driving distance from Savannah, Charleston, and their perks.... but we've found that Bluffton is more budget friendly than those areas tend to be.

  • Georgetown, Georgetown, Georgetown!  :)

We live about 25 miles away from Georgetown in a tiny place called Hemingway - and when I say "tiny" I mean that we have no cell-phone service, the closest town is 10 minutes away & they only have two redlights, I'm related to all of the neighbors, we are surrounded by tobacco fields & churches.  But we love it!  Georgetown is where we got married, and my parents live in Georgetown.

It is very close to the beach, it is small enough to keep it personal, and it is a beautiful & historic town.  I ADORE everything about Georgetown.  It is small, on the coast, there are old oak-tree lined streets, and friendly people all around.  We even stayed at a B&B in Georgetown the night of our wedding before we left for our honeymoon.  I've lived in the area my whole life and if you are looking for a small, charming, coastal town...Georgetown is it.  :) Good luck!
