Don't get in the left lane on the highway and camp out at 60-65mph. The left lane is for passing, and I can't utilize it when you're going the same speed as the person I'm trying to pass.

     I can totally picture this!

Leslie - What did you do to use to organize your meals? I need to start doing this.

I just found a calendar template for Word on Microsoft Office online (one with a notes section at the bottom) and sat down for an hour on Sunday and planned out the next two weeks.

I filled in about half the days with things we like to eat and then filled in another 1/4 with a day for me to cook two things (one DH likes and I don't and one I like and he doesn't) so that we would have leftovers for lunches. The other 1/4 I found receipes that sounded good on All Recipes. This is what this week looked like:

Tue - Chicken Pasta / Hamburger Helper (DH loves this, I do not- this was the 2 meals night!)

Wed- Lemon Pepper Chicken, Green Beans, Carrots, Mac & Cheese

Thur - Grilled Tilapia, Grilled Asparagus, Rosemary Carrots

    Fri - Date Night!

Sat - Burgers, Hot Dogs, Grilled Corn, Sweet Potato Fries

Sunday - Polynesian Pot Roast w/potatoes and carrots (In crock pot - All Recipes), salad

We have had leftovers from dinner for lunch all week. For breakfast I drink a GM and DH usually has just coffee, so I didn't plan those. I also have some sandwich stuff on hand for filler if we need it.

dh does this all the time.  He rarely drives when we are going somewhere together but every once in a while he will offer to drive.  It annoys me and it makes me so nervous because I just can't go that slow.  He goes the exact posted speed and sets the cruise so he doesn't speed and then he'll zone out and not pay attention to the lane he is in(usually the left) and that traffic is flying past him and flipping him off.  I have panic attacks in the passenger seat.

We fight more when he is driving then any other time because I have to tell him where to go and he will wait till the last minute to change lanes and he is the one that will slow down to change lanes and he drives too slow in the left lane.  My parents always give us a hard time that I drive all the time and I tell them that for everyone's sanity it's just better if I drive!

That's fine to go the speed limit and no faster. But don't do it in the left lane. Stay in the middle or right lane.

I go speed limit too. I just make sure I'm only in the left lane if I'm passing. I try to be a very concious driver.

  • Summer, congrats on the exam!

Leslie, I have been okay with meal planning lately.  I will say the whats cooking board on here has been a HUGE help and inspiration.

I dont really have any AW at all.  I am exhausted because I have only been getting 5-6 hours of sleep which just isnt enough for me, however its hard to force myself to bed before 10.

I also think I hurt Matts feelings last night.  We were laying in bed discussing how Friday would be 3 months and I made a comment that I cant believe its only been 3 months it feels like its been excrutiatingly long.  I didnt really mean because of him its just been a rough and stressful 3 months that have just drug on and on. :(

I agree but he doesn't always stay in the middle or right lane.  He likes to drive in the left lane.  I did ask him one day about a year or so ago why he liked the left lane and he said it was because the other lanes always had slow cars in them and he liked the left lane because the cars were always moving.  DUH they are going over the speed limit past all the slow cars but you are now in the fast lane going slow and causing people to fail their arms and curse you!  I keep telling myself that he is from the country and that no one gets in a hurry out there so he doesn't know any better but he has been here almost 7 years.

  • Leslie-  You read 400 pages last night?!?!?!  You are my hero.  I must be the world's slowest reader.
  • Also, I have had no time to start the book club book and do not think I will be able to get it done.
  • imagedanac2010:

LMAO.  DH usually does the left lane too because he normally passes (ok, normally passed everyone- he drives like an old man now) and especially on long road trips, I have an irrational fear that someone is going to do something stupid to us because they don't want to go around him.  We've had people do stupid stuff when we were in the right lane going well over the speed limit.  If we are going around people and someone is riding his tail, he'll take it off cruise control and take it down a few MPH so I think "Great.  They'll go around, pull over in front of us and slam on their brakes."  Someone did that to my mom for no reason at all and we ended up in the ditch.

  • I'm liking The Book Thief too... I'm not very far into it.  Did we ever decide about next week?

Deepthi, The Book Thief is this month's selection, and we'd tossed around the idea of meeting up next weekend (the 16th) but I am not sure if it was ever decided or not.  Join us!

  • Aww BL.

Have you explained to Matt that you didn't mean it like that?

  • My biggest fear is someone not paying attention and coming up on us too fast and hitting us.  I have seen it happen and being a frequent left lane driver myself that has a bit of a lead foot I know when someone is going slow in the fast lane and you are going 70+ and they are going 55-60 it's hard to stop sometimes( especially when they are on the other side of a hill).  Or like you said, slam on their brakes for no reason once they get in front of us.  DH hates it when people get behind him and flash their lights at you.  He will slow down and pace with the car next to him so they can't pass.  I slouch down and say you know we live in Texas, they could have a gun and shoot you if they are having a bad day.  He always tells me I watch too many Criminal Mind type shows.

LOL! Last night was a special occasion. My DH had to go do construction site walks at 6 pm so I made and early dinner for both of us and then read from 6pm-10pm. I only intended to read for an hour or so but got into it and didn't stop until I was so tired I was struggling to keep my eyes open.

I wasn't even going to start this book next since I wasn't doing book club this month, but the "praise" on the back cover made me very curious it said things like: "A life changing book." "I read until the early hours of the morning to finish the last 200 pages." "The best book I've ever read." Pretty large praise...

ETA: Are you coming on Monday? You better!!!

I have been threatened before.  I was driving on a two-lane road, and this guy wanted to pass and I was messing with him and wouldn't let him because it wasn't safe and there was another car in front of me anyway so he couldn't have gone anywhere... he got SOCLOSE to my back bumper, I couldn't see his headlights and I tapped my brakes just enough to make the lights come on, not make him hit me, so he'd back off.  Then, when he got beside me he rolled down the window (and like an idiot I did too) and he told me I shouldn't play like that because he had a gun.  I hit the brakes and drove about 40 mph for a while so he could get far far ahead of me.

Or if some guy is being a real jerk from behind to other cars and wanting to pass by squeezing in, DH will speed up so they can't pass to piss them off.  Sometimes I get it but at the same time in some situations, is it worth putting our lives at risk to do that?

With my sister's move I don't have time this month to go to a G2G.. I'll be in Houston most weekends. I want to read the book, but I want to finish Something Borrowed since I'm already in the middle of it! I'll totally join in for next month if you guys tell me what the book is after your meeting.

I am still planning to come. I have been struggling with some female health issues for the past week, but as long as I am feeling well enough, I will be there.

  • Summer,

I did explain it to him and I think he was okay but he knows that a good chunk (not all) of my stress is financial and him not having a job is a contributor.  It just is what it is right now.

Deepthi, we remodeled last year--mainly our bathrooms, although we did do some things to our kitchen (tile, new light fixtures, some repair and taking down wallpaper and painting).  First of all--it will take longer than they say it will.  And make sure you get everything in writing and you are clear on the costs are my only recommendations really.

I did not like the Book Thief when I first started but I am into it now but am still not even halfway done.  Guess I need to get going.  If we want to move it to the first weekend in August, I'm fine with that.

It's not really an AW but we have planned our Vegas trip and we decided to stay at the Four Seasons.  I'm really excited--it's probably the only time we'll ever get to stay at one.

We're going to eat at the Harbor tonight and see Super 8 so that should be fun.

Men like to "think" they are the better drivers, but my DH does the exact same thing!! I'm the type that has a "plan" for where I'm going, meaning I know which lane to get in and stay in, and I'm always going 5-10 over, but if I see other cars going faster, I make sure to get out of the way asap.  Sometimes DH will take me to work which really throws me for a loop b/c it seems like he goes in every wrong lane possible (totally NOT according to my plan) and then gets pissy when he can't change lanes at the last minute.  The whole time I'm thinking, "if you had only gotten in this lane to begin with, you wouldn't be having this issue..."  Grr, it IS stressful, but then again I will just look at my phone while I'm in the passenger's seat to take my mind off it...whew!

AW: I finally got our wedding picture DVD! It turns out that it was lost in the mail for over a month, and I was too shy to say anything until about a week ago. Oops Embarrassed

Oh man, I hate when motorcycles do that.  Motorcycles in general make me really nervous - I am always so afraid one will wipe out in front of me and I'll run over the driver on accident.  Like, very afraid of this happening, so when I see them a lot of times I'll slow down so they can get way ahead of me!

My DH rides a Harley and was rear-ended by someone not paying attention that he was stopped in front of them.  So, this scares me too.

  • I was on my way to the dentist a few mins ago thinking my appt was at 2:30, and looked at my calendar just to double check annnnnnnnnnd it was at 2.

I called and apologized profusely and they said go ahead and come in. I feel bad. I used to work at a doctor's office, I know how frustrating it is when patients no-show or are late.

I worry about this when Jeff takes out his bike too. He's a safe driver on his motorcycle and normally get annoyed with those stupid drivers. I just worry about other cars who aren't paying attention.

Thanks for the advice! The bathroom is next. The kitchen will be a bigger ordeal so we thought we will take care of that first. I think all the stuff in the bathroom we want to do can be done ourselves. The in writing stuff has been ingrained in me after all this wedding stuff.
