picky eaters and go to foods

oliver is becoming very particular about what he eats and maybe its just a phase but regardless i need some help on what to do.

do you give LO a variety of foods at dinner if they won't eat what you made?  somedays/nights i swear he won't eat anything but blueberries.

what are your go to foods when they won't eat what you made?

any insight or advice is appreciated!

Re: picky eaters and go to foods

  • Maya went through this and mostly, it was just a phase.  She's still picky about some things, but will eat most of what I make now.  For a while I felt like the child was living off of toast!

Our go to things were grilled cheese, peanut butter sandwiches, apples with peanut butter, yogurt, and chicken nuggets.  She wasn't eating much at school either when she was in the 2 year old room.  I gave her vitamins during that time.  Now she eats everything at school and does pretty well at home.

  • When Wes won't eat anything else, he almost always eats... Strawberries, yogurt covered raisins, madarin oranges, chicken quesadilla, and Gerber cereal bars.

  • G went through this phase around 11 months-she would only eat blueberries or peas. I always offered her dinner but usually we end up just letting her eat the blueberries or peas. Eventually she just started eating her dinner again and is now a good eater!

Our go-too were cheese filled hotdogs (gasp! sometimes my kid ate nitrates! ;-) ), mac n cheese, yogurt, and just about any fruit although blueberries were her favorite.

  • we are in this phase right now!!! It totally sucks because of Grant's allergies, he can't have milk, soy, eggs, or pork. I swear he is living off of almond milk.

Does Oliver drink a lot? I know that it has helped if we cut off the after daycare drinks. I let Grant have one drink, then tell him to wait for dinner.

Our go to foods are baked beans, he will always eat those. But otherwise it is a stuggle to get him to eat sometimes.

  • Natalie only eats a few main courses: peanut butter sandwich, cheese quesadilla, turkey hot dogs, pancakes, and occasionally pizza.  She loves crackers, almost every fruit, and other snacky things.  She refuses to try anything new, but I just keep offering with the hopes that someday she will say yes and actually like it.  Until then, she gets what she likes because she is on the smaller side and she is unable to understand reasoning :o)

  • Hummus on wheat tortilla is my "lazy" go to meal for Cole.  I always have steamed sweet potatoes & TJ's organic mixed veggies prepared too.  Easy and Cole seems to really like it.
