Anyone camp a lot? Tell me your favorite spots!

We love camping! We're heading to backbone this weekend. What is everyone's favorite spots to camp? I am looking for fun campgrounds close to Des Moines.

Camping is for the birds.

We are tent campers. We haven't tried it out with the kids yet but we really want to soon. I think we will try out Yellow Banks first because it is so close.

I really enjoy Cherry Glen campground near Saylorville Lake as well as Howell Station at Lake Red Rock. They both have really nice sites and I have been to both places multiple times.

Do you know what's going on with Cherry Glen? I tried making an online reservation a couple days ago and it said every site is booked till the end of the season. I wondered if they're closed this year.

We're going to try Jester Park this time. Whitebreast at Lake Red Rock is another good one.

We usually just camp in my mom's backyard with the rest of the family.  When we do reserve a spot its usually Lake Aquabi, Lake Red Rock, or Spring Lake (up in Greene county).
