CD mama's help please

ETA: I'll probably end up going with the 7th gen unless some amazing deal falls into my lap which is fine, but I like the idea of owning a couple for things like this

Ok, DD is going to spend 2 overnights with my IL's next Thurs-sat

MIL is still recovering from a very bad disease last year (she nearly died), she is about 90% now , she is a former In home DCP (she can't do it anymore because of the illness).

I don't want to add any extra to her plate by having her use the CD's because she would have to wash them once.

So my options are
1. buy a pack of 7th gen sposies for $12 but aren't as eco friendly and I can't reuse them
2. Buy a few grovia shells and a pack of 50 bio soakers (more $$$ and we don't have a whole bunch of money to shuck out)

3. find someone willing to lend me/give me for extremely cheap 3 shells (or squeak by with 2) and buy the soakers

Any thoughts? know anyone that could/would help? I'd really like to go the grovia route because we could use them for trips like this in the future

Re: CD mama's help please

  • We don't have any grovia but if u want to stay in the cloth diaper route that would be the way to go. Any chance there are shells or soakers listed on craigslist? i have sold some of my stash there that wasn't working for us and they seem to sell pretty cheaply.

We were thinking about using grovia or the flip with disposable inserts for vacations, but the problem is the reviews I read online say that they don't hold up well with heavy wetters and my lil guy soaks his diapers liquity split, especially at night time. So far for vacations we have had to use disposables :( . Have you had better luck with grovia? i did remember seeing something online for the "summer gro to go" that had a special for grovia but not certain which online store it was.... Good luck! Sorry its not much help.

  • you use fitteds, right? what covers do you have? flip also makes a disposable insert that they just re-designed. i haven't used the new ones but i did like the old ones and they are pretty universal. i would assume the grovia inserts would fit in pretty much any cover as well

i doubled up on the flip disposables and didn't have an issue, but this was also when my son was little and he's a pretty heavy wetter now.

  • You may want to ask your MIL what her preference is before making any changes.  She might not mind doing a load of CDs.   We went through this recently and my mom was actually excited to be part of the CD movememt :)

  • thanks ladies, I think I'm just going to go with the sposies.

Silliest bunny - she would be totally down for it if she was back up to her normal self but she still can't do all of her own housework so I really don't want to burden her, I want her and FIL to be able to just worry about DD without making MIL too tired
