peony 1012's hydrangeas

Sorry -- I can't post directly to your thread.  "Reply" redirects to an ad.

In my admittedly limited experience, this is very common for hydrangeas in very hot weather.  As you said, they perk up when the air gets cooler.  Just make sure they aren't drying out and they should be fine.

And it isn't just because they were recently planted -- this happens to established plants, too.

  • Thank you...it appears my original post was spammed!
  • Ditto PP...totally normal for hydrangeas to wilt a bit in the heat of summer. Definitely make sure they're getting enough water, though--we put in a soaker hose for the hydrangeas at our old house to help get them through the dry spells, and that helped a bit.

If I keep the soil wet during the hottest part of the day, they don't wilt. I know this isn't feasible for most people, but watering them when you get home will suffice. Just give them plenty of water at ground level.
