CA Bumpie looking to relocate.. need some guidance

Hi... My family all lives in AZ and we are seriously considering moving.  My company just listed the perfect job opening in Phoenix.  I don't want to discuss with my family yet since they'll get their hopes up. :)

I'd like to cut out my commute (right now, I have a 40 mile one way commute.. and I am over it).

The office is located at in 85028.  It looks to be a mile or so off of the 51 at Cactus (Cactus and Tatum to be exact).

What communities would be within a decent distance for homes?  I want to price homes and see how it might change our life style :)  I was looking at homes in Verrado over the holiday weekend... that's too far but I fell in love!  Ideally, we'd like a family friendly community that has younger couples.

Thanks in advance!

  • First of all, I'd be a big fan of you relocating to Phoenix Big Smile

Cactus and Tatum is a really great location, and there are several family friend communities fairly close!

DH and I have been looking around Cave Creek and Deer Valley area (this is maybe 2 miles west and 6 miles north- but all freeway and little traffic in the mornings due to the area.  It's a very family oriented area (we have family that lives there now).

There are also great communities located at Tatum and the 101, and further east into North Scottsdale (DC Ranch is one that comes to mind).  However the further east you go- the more expensive houses will get.

Paradise Valley is also another great option, I volunteer in this area and there are some great area's, here that would be literally within a 2-5 mile radius of your office.

Paradise Valley and Scottsdale both have good schools (relatively speaking, AZ's education system isn't exactly awesome).

Let us know how we can help more :)

  • Thanks!!!!  I forgot you were in Phoenix area!!

I am sure I'll have more questions but that's a good jumping off point.

  • I agree with what Jenn posted as these are great communities.  The area that you are looking at can be a little pricey but coming from CA it may not be a big deal since cost of living is higher there.

Let us know what other questions you have, we are happy to help!!

  • I live very close to that area and love it, everything is so convenient.  If you like Verrado, you may want to look into Fireside and Aviano in Desert Ridge.  Those communities are very similar to Verrado and the commute would be very easy.
