Where do you go for special occassion dinners?

I'm specifically wondering about Howard County or even in Baltimore, but feel free to share any where that you really like.  DH and I had a favorite restaurant where we liked to celebrate in college and we really miss it.  It had amazing food, great service, and a quiet, romantic atmosphere.  We haven't been able to replicate that since we moved in Maryland and I'm curious where others like to go.

  • We really like LaScala in Little Italy.

  • The place that comes to mind with your description, for me, is Iron Bridge Wine Company. We actually have had a really difficult time finding restaurants with good service in the area.

  • Tio Pepe's. Love the atmosphere there. Warm, intimate and they make you feel special :) Its a great place for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

  • Two of our favorites are Cinghiale and Woodbery Kitchen. I think both sites have sound, so beware if you are opening at work.

IL's love this place.  H and I like it a lot, just not as much as they do.

We like the Oregon Grille for something fancy schmancy.

  • I second Woodberry Kitchen! And The Dogwood is cozy with great food also.

  • What you are describing sounds like Milton Inn to me. Very intimate, small rooms, great service and food. Even a fireplace for cold winter evenings.

The Charleston is also great, especially if you get seated in the room behind the bar, which is an odd description, but it's a small intimate space. Rather dark, kind of sexy. I love The Charleston, H not so much. Which is why I will be heading there with my brother :) Not exactly a hot date, but we will eat great food, and have a lovely time!

Tio Pepe is lovely, but to me it seems very very close and crowded. I have eaten there twice, and the one time I thought my entree was, eh. The second time I went during Restaurant week, when they serve paellea for one (normally only available for two) and it was excellent.

Someone else mentioned Oregon Grille, which I love for atmosphere, but my last three meals there have sucked azz. The food was mediocore at best, and the steaks were way over cooked. A $75 seafood tower wasn't enough to feed four for appetizers, which I find borderline offensive.

When I lived in Baltimore/Baltimore county, these 2 places.

Here in Annapolis our go-to place for special occasions is Lewnes' - it's a steakhouse, but I know a lot of people love their Aegean shrimp dish.  I am a big tramp for their filet oscar. We went there the night DH moved into our old rental house and told them it was our first night in Annapolis and they surprised us w/ a brownie sundae, fast forward almost 4 years and we went there for our 5th anniversary and they did it again.

  • Tio Pepe and Cinghale are both great. Our place is Prime Rib. We have never had a bad experience there; food is always top notch and the service is fantastic. Throw in a live piano player and some leopard print carpet and the atmosphere is great.

I've been to Lewnes in Annapolis and it was good but I much prefer Prime Rib.

  • Tio Pepe is our go to place for special occasions.  I second those who have been unimpressed with Oregon Grille.  I never thought that place lived up to what it was trying to be.

I haven't been in ages - but Milton Inn also fits the bill for what you're describing.  Warm, cozy - great service and food.

  • Another vote for Woodberry Kitchen. I'm a big fan of their concept farm to table.

  • I loooove Charleston. In HoCo, I like Ranazul at Maple Lawn or Standford Grill. Further afield, in Bethesda, I really love Blacks Bar and Kitchen.

You must check out Milton Inn. Probably one of the best dinners that DH and I have ever had.

  • We love Iron Bridge.  If you ask them for a more private table they will give you a more romantic one.  They also have this "couch table" that you can get if you reserve far enough in advance.
  • We go to Ruth's Chris for most of our special occassion dinners.  I love that place!
  • Thank you!  I'm looking forward to trying new places.  I definitely think we need to check out The Milton Inn.

  • Baltimore Restaurant Week is coming next month. Could be a good time to check some of these places out (if they participate).
  • We went to The Chop House in Annapolis for our anniversary.  It was yummy.
