Program to design birth announcement?

My sister just had her first baby yesterday, and I'd love to design a custom birth announcement for the baby's wall.  I am thinking something like this:

NEW - Name Print Vintage - large

I'm not sure what program would be best to design something for print (I only do web.)  Can someone recommend a program (either Mac or PC is fine) that I could do this kind of layout with?

Thanks!

Re: Program to design birth announcement?

  • It looks kind of big so I would say something like Adobe Illustrator or some other program like that.  I think photoshop may make the font a little too blurry.  I have Illustrator and for me the only hard part would be finding the 'frame' part of it to download - probably need to pay a few bucks for something off the design websites or try and find it for free off a website like a scrapbooking one maybe.
  • I would probably use Adobe InDesign for this...I think it's easier to work with text in InDesign than Illustrator, but really either one could work fine. I would only use Illustrator for something like this if I was going to create the the artwork (scroll background) from scratch. But I probably wouldn't...you can buy stock art like that pretty easily (http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-illustration-11100405-swirl-banner.php?st=c0c02f3) and customize it to fit your needs.

Adobe allows you to download a free 30 day trial of all of their programs, here is a link to it (sorry no clicky!): http://www.adobe.com/downloads/

If you are unfamiliar with the programs, there are great online tutorials out there. Also, feel free to page me if you get stuck on anything :-)

    Good luck!

  • Awesome, thank you both!
