Vegetable help

I don't usually post here but I need help fast. I have a decent sized veggie garden that has a rabbit fence around it. This has kept them out great but overnight last night the deer ate all the flowers off my peas. How do I keep the deer out. Next year we will create a higher fence but right now I need something fast. Also will my peas grow back? They were doing so well but now the tops and flowers are gone. TIA

Re: Vegetable help

  • Put human hair around the garden.  It smells like you and your family and deer hate it!  (think clean out your hair brushes).  Also, and this might be a little gross, you can put urine around the fence, it too has an odour that deer will avoid.  Will need reapplication of either according to rain.

It's likely that your peas will grow back, though you will have late peas.

  • The smell of Milorganite apparently repels them.  I've used it around my hostas and other nibblies and so far it seems to be working.  It's also a good fertilizer -- I think it's safe for edibles, but you might not want to think about what it's made from.
