Question for moms with 2 or more kids...

Just wondering how far apart you kids are? Any advantages/disadvantages with there age different? My son is 8 months old and as much as we're not ready today, i dont want to wait too long to have another.

Thanks, Ash

Re: Question for moms with 2 or more kids...

  • Not quite mom of two yet but mine will be 8 years apart. advantage DS is soo excited to have a sibling and can't wait to help. Disadvantage we got rid of every baby thing we had and it's like starting over.

Most of our friends have at least 2+ years between siblings.

  • Mine are 13 months apart -- so I was part of the 2 u2 club...

Yes, its difficult in many ways because you still have a baby when your new baby is born -- BUT  mine are so close (bonded) they are best friends and really play together and love each other so much. Of course they scuffle (even at this age, yes) but its toddler stuff.

Did we plan to have 2u2? No.

Would we have planned for 2u2? Doubtful.

WOuld I go back and change it now given the opportunity to space it out? NO.

  • I will be in about 7 weeks, joining the 2u2.

Mine will be 15 months apart, it wasn't planned but (again check back with me in a few months) I wouldn't change it.  My mom and MIL both had kids 16 months apart and they said the advantages long term are better- closeness, bonding, being "done with baby stuff at once" etc.

I grew up as 1 of 3U3 so maybe I am used to it.

I will say, I am planning on spacing them in school. We were every other year in school instead of 3 in a row.  This helped with our individual identities and gave my mom more time with us.  Also excelling better in school (and I just read another article on this in the current issue of Parenting).  This is my plan, not to say she won't be in preschool still, but will wait for Kindergarten.  I'd rather her be on the "older side" of the grade then the younger.

Hmm this is interesting... as both of mine are fall babies, they'll both be "younger" in their grades... something I'd never considered with paige as far as kindergarten -- thanks.

  • thanks ladies

  • I wanted to have another by the time K was 2, but since her birthday is in 2 months, not going to happen.  I want to have one by the time she is 3 for sure, but its more for personal reasons than spacing - I'm an only child because once my mom hit 30, they weren't able to have another kid.  They never got it worked up, but I'll  be 30 in March....
