How to get carpet cleaner residue out of Berber carpet?

The carpet cleaner we bought earlier this week is a piece of junk and decided that it wouldn't suck the water up when I went to rinse the carpet, and now my feet are covered with a waxy residue when I go in the room. My son's new furniture was delivered this weekend, but I can't put it in the room until I feel like the carpet is actually clean. Any home remedies, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and get it professionally cleaned? I have heard to use a vinegar solution or baking soda, but wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience with this problem. Thanks!
I HAVE CHILDREN.

Re: How to get carpet cleaner residue out of Berber carpet?

  • I have used vinegar with hot water, maybe 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. And gone over it several times. The "pickle" smell goes away when it is dry.
  • After using a rental carpet cleaner on my berber, I decided to only use the professionals from now on.  the berber held so much water that we have to go over it several times to get a reasonable amount out before we could let it air dry.  So I vote for the professionals.

I agree. The best thing you can do is call a professional. Hot water extraction. The problem with the cleaning residue is that if you don't get it COMPLETELY out of your carpet-it will make your carpet look worse. It attracts dirt and soil and can make your carpet soil quicker.
