Anyone have a Ford Escape?

Right now we have two Fusions.  We really need something a little bigger since we now have the baby plus two dogs.  We took a trip last weekend and it was WAY too crammed with all of us.  I actually sat in the back seat while DH drove because the passenger seat is up so far when the baby seat is in the back.  It wasn't a fun ride, to say the least, but I'm not totally convinced that an Escape would give us too much more room.

Does anyone drive an Escape that can offer their opinion?  I notice that it says you can fold down or take out the back seat.  Would it be possible to leave the baby seat on one side and take out the other side of the back seat to make room for the dogs to lay on the floor?

Oh, and we get the A Plan with Ford, so we're planning to stick with them and the Escapes have the best deal going right now.  I would love an Explorer, but they are out of our budget.

Re: Anyone have a Ford Escape?

  • I absolutely LOVE my Escape!  I plan to drive it until it dies, lol!  Mine's an '08, so the styling is different, but overall, I love the car!  So much trunk space, and I got the travelling package with mine which includes a roof rack and a storage compartment in the bottom of the trunk that always comes in handy.

I do believe I can put down only 2 of three backseats if you wanted to, I'd have to check though.

The car handles well, I get about 30 mpg city with it, 30-35 highway depending on where I'm driving (I do drive a manual though instead of the automatic).  It is super reliable - I've never had any torubles with it!

  • I have a 2010 Escape. Yes you can put down 2/3 of the back seat to lay flat.  I don't have children but I would have to imagine that it would be plenty of room.  We have two dogs who love to run around back there with the seats down.
  • We love our escape too. We are on our second one and will probably be keeping with the escape until our family grows any bigger.
I think ours is a 2010 too. We travel with a large dog (lab) and two kids, frequently. We have a car top carrier now that we are a family of 4 that we use for big trips (back to NY) but when we made trips (1-3 hours), we'd just use half the back/trunk and have the dog curled up on his bed on the other half.

I personally think you will love an escape and have more than enough room.  What kind of dogs do you have?

  • My mom has an Escape and I love driving it when I get the chance, though I've never put DD's car seat in it.  Definitely more room than a Fusion.  I have an 2003 Explorer which I'll probably drive until it dies but I think I'd like an Escape next.

I have a 2010 Escape and I LOVE it. I highly recommend it. It is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned (and my first Ford). I plan on keeping it until it dies as well.

I don't have any issues with space, however, it is just my husband and I. I have used it for moving and it has been much easier to use for space than our G6.

  • I have a 2005 Escape and just hit 110,000 miles this morning. I love it. We have our carseat in it - we have a Graco Sungride 35. I know the Escape has been redesigned and I'm not sure of the 2011 or 2012 designs, but mine also has a 2/3 split bench. We haven't done it with the car seat in it since I usually ride in the back for long trips due to pumping but I would think it would work.
    FINALLY! My Reviews

  • I currently have an '08 Taurus Limited but prior to that I had an Escape and I loved it!  It was a lease and at the time my lease was up I wasn't able to get into another one at the same price so I bought a used car instead.  I never had a baby carrier in the back seat but would take my niece in her car seat with no problems.  However, my Taurus has a larger back seat than my Escape did, and the trunk in my Taurus is MASSIVE.
  • My sister has that car, so I have used it a few times.  She has the 2/3 split back seat.  We put the car seat on the side so we can put most of the back seat down.  The problem was when LO was really little and we used that big travel system.  You couldn't fit much else in the 'trunk' with that.  But the travel system will be replaced by an umbrella stroller at some point.

We have a Puggle and a Beagle/Hound mix.  Both are medium size dogs, about 35-40 pounds.  So they aren't too huge or anything.

I think you ladies convinced me!  We are going to go test drive one this week and we'll probably end up getting it.  The best part is that I can upgrade from my Fusion and my payment will actually go down a little bit.

Have you checked out the Traverse?  We were going back and forth between a couple of cars, and I figured the Traverse was too big for our needs now, but when we have our next kid, it will be perfect.

  • I loved my 2008 Escape!!  Now I drive a 2011 Explorer and love that even more but honestly, either one satifies our needs.  The Escape gets decent gas mileage and you can really pack it full for long road trips.   And yes, the back seat splits so you can have a baby seat on one side and the other side flipped down for more space.  I say go for it!!

  • I'm a little late on this but I have one and really like it.  Haven't had any real problems with it.  I have an 05 so it has changed since than but I would get another one if it was up to me.  DH hates fords.

Boo to your DH! LOL JK.

I've heard good things about the new Escapes.  I personally LOVE the way the Edge looks - but I don't know how that compares price or space wise.  Thanks for sticking with FORD!
