New to the Knot and Lake Geneva

Hi everyone! I just got married April 23rd, and have recently moved to the Lake Geneva area with my husband and our labradoodle. I grew up in the Chicago suburbs- very different from our more country-like lifestlye now. What I miss most of all is having malls and bookstores in abundance! Whenever I was bored, I would spend time walking the shopping malls, but all there is now is Wal-mart. Where do you ladies do your shopping? Previously, I haven't been a big online shopper, but it seems like it may come to that now....

  • I grew up in the Lake Geneva area, so I feel your pain!  McHenry, IL is about 25 minutes from Lake Geneva, and they have many major stores you would find at a mall, plus a Barnes and Noble, tons of restaurants.  That's where I would suggest going if you need a variety of stores.
  • Welcome!  I live up in Eau Claire, WI now, but I grew up in Twin Lakes (a small town about 15 min from LG) and got married in LG.  I personally love the shopping in LG, because its all local boutiques rather than run-of-the-mill shopping malls.  McHenry is a good place to go for all the basics, but for really good mall shopping you'll have to head to Spring Hill Mall, Vernon Hills, or up to Madison or Milwaukee.  Kenosha has a good outlet mall, and that's only about 40 minutes away!

  • I'm from the Chicago suburbs, but my family has a place on Lake Como and I spent all my summers in LG.I also got married there almost 4 years ago at Hawk's View.
