s/o name change & middle name

I'll be changing my last name, but I don't know if I'm going to  move my maiden name to my middle name, or keep my middle name.

What did you do?  Would it be weird to have 4 names?  and if you know mine and my fiances last names, would it be ridiculously long?

Re: s/o name change & middle name

  • I never liked my last name, plus it's the wrong one. So I just dropped it all together and took DH's last name.

  • I kept my middle name and just dropped my last name and took DH's name. Originally, I was going to drop my middle name bc I liked my maiden name and was sad to give it up. However, my middle name is also the first name of my favorite cousin who was dying of cancer at the time and I couldn't give that up either. It was important to DH that we have the same last name so in the end I parted with my maiden name.

  • I realized if I kept my maiden name and took my husband's name my initials would be HPV (common initials for cervical cancer).  So I dropped my long, hard to pronounce Polish last name in favor of my husband's shorter, easier to spell name.

  • I dropped my middle name, because my maiden name felt more like an important part of my identity. However, if someone asked what my middle name was, I'd still tell them my given middle name.
  • I have 4 names, hyphenated the two last names. It was great in theory, but my ln is now soooooo long-6 syllables. Barely fits on credit cards. Considering changing it again.

    I did the same.

In that case, my last name would be 7 syllables and 17 letters.

I tried convincing FI to combine our last names into ONE GIANT SUPERNAME! but he was not interested.

I think I'm going to go with First Name Middle Name New Last Name.

just wanted to clarify that HPV is not cervical cancer. I thought it should be said.  There are links to HPV causing cancer but it is not cancer.

  • I am legally First name Middle name Maiden name Married name.

My maiden name is like a second middle name. My maiden name never comes up... I just didn't want to drop it. I go by First name Married name and if I need to put my middle name or middle initial for anything, I use the middle name that my parents gave me.

  • I took DH's last name. I like my middle name and wanted to keep it. I didn't want to have multiple names.

  • I kept my first and middle names and took the hub's last name.

Profesionally, however, I am still Amy MaidenName.
