choosing destination in Mexico
Here are my options for destinations in Mexico:
Cancun
Cozumel
Cabo
Puerto Vallarta
Riveria Maya
Who has been to any of these places and what feedback do you have? It will be DH, Oliver (who will be 1.5-2 yrs old), and I. We're looking for something chill, toddler friendly, and ability to swim in the water/beach. We're going to go with an all inclusive resort so I am just trying to decide which location. Help!!!
Re: choosing destination in Mexico
Got your EM just been SLAMMED with Wedding Groups. Let me know which way you want to go after you have gotten feedback and you have dates.
Budget wise your best options are usually Cancun/Riviera Maya & Cozumel.
We've only been to Cancun so I can't really speak to the other locations. We loved it, it was beautiful, friendly, easy to get around, everyone spoke enough english that language wasn't an issue. We felt completely safe. The only thing was we went to an all inclusive adult only hotel. We went when I was 5 months pregnant with C so we didn't want a bunch of kids jumping in the pool causing a rucus all of the time so I have no recommendations for a fun family experience there.
From what I understand about the Riveria Maya, it is about an hour or so south of Cancun and is a nicer, more exclusive area (think calmer, more beachy than resorty), but it is also pricier.
I have been to Cancun, Cozumel (4 times) and Riviera Maya (3 times). We're going back to the Riveria Maya in March.
In my opinion - Mexico is Mexico. It's all about the resort.
If I have any advice - I would suggest staying in Cancun. It's the closest to the airport and knowing how long of a day it can be traveling...I can't imagine traveling on a plane with a toddler and then getting in a cab/van for another 1-2 hours to drive to a resort. If you stay in Cancun - odds are your resort will be relatively close to the airport.
Just my 2 cents!
I would check tripadvisor.com. They have great reviews and usually a lot of pictures so you can gauge the kiddie pool areas. There are ratings for family friendly spots.
I have stayed in Riviera Maya twice, once at an adults only and once at another resort (H10 Ocean Coral and Turquesa). We enjoyed both resorts and the beaches a lot. H10 had a kiddie pool that was separate from the other pools (where the swim-up bar is). It is a pretty big resort, but we had a great stay.
