s/o potty training - undies time?

I replied in the other post but had a question I thought I would ask...We haven't been gung ho with potty training and part of that is because we had to take a break with her mini-surgery (per doctor's order) but we'd like to crack down on it. I've heard that letting her run around in her undies or naked is good but what about the messes of accidents? We have carpet in our whole house...do you let them on the furniture? (we have cloth furniture) What do you use to clean up the accident? Thanks!

  • I did my best to keep G in the kitchen. It made for long days but I just tried to be prepared to keep him entertained.  To clean up the puddles I used a towel and then would wipe up with Lysol wipes.  The first day when I showered I waited until C was taking a nap and sat G on the potty the whole time so he could see the tv.

  • We let C run around naked throughout the whole house.  We have carpet but it is old and needs to be replaced soon anyway.  We don't mind him getting up on the furniture unless he looks suspicious like he'll need to go soon.  We also bring the potty out in the main room where he is playing so he can get to it quickly.  We've surprisingly only had a handful of accidents and all but 1 of those was number 1.  I blot the pee spot with a towel, clean with soap and water, then spray Totally Toddler stain remover on the spot and rinse with water a minute later.  Then I pat it dry with another towel.  It doesn't take long and we don't have any permanent stains from his potty training so maybe that's why I'm okay with him running the house without undies on.

  • Yeah, messes happen.  We tend to do no undies, but with loose pants.  Then the mess hits the pants first, with less on the floor.  WE're to the stage now that I don't worry about the furniture.  But before now, I'd sometimes put down a big blanket or towels on the couch.  For pee, I blot dry, then with water.  boy pee is fairly clean.  for poop, we've been lucky that it's all been very solid (and large!), so I wipe with a lysol wipe.

  • We just did naked and let them run around like normal.  We just used soap and water to clean up any accidents.
