Need hair color help..(PIP)

Help! I have a hair appointment coming up and I have to figure out how to describe to the colorist wha I want. My hair is a couple different colors right now. I want to lighter but I have always been told that I could only do that if I do all over highlights. I DO NOT want chunky blonde highlights. The highlights righ now are caramel highlights but the dark underneath is showing through. i want the highlights to give me a lighter all over color.

WDYT? TIA

This is what it looks like now.

but I really am liking this.. just apprehensive that it will be too much of a jump in color.. not b/c I think its too light, but that the color now wont transfer over to a lighter color well

  • Can you communicate that you do not want chunky blonde to your stylist? I think it only turns out chunky if they color it that way. I would take the picture you found to your stylist and tell her that is the overall color you are going for. She should be able to accomodate you.

I used to have dark brown hair and got it highlited recently and it's not chunky blonde at all.

This is what I would do.  This is their job, they should know enough about coloring to know how to  cover the color you have and make it look the way you want.  It might involve a combination of low lights and high lights, but I think you should easily be able to transition to that color.

  • Just tell you stylist that you don't want chunky highlights.  It's just a matter of changing how often they foil and how much hair they grab for each foil.

As far as doing full highlights, IMO I think that helps prevent the chunky look.  It evens things out among your entire head of hair.

Another thing to ask about is tinting your base.  It'll lighten up the hair that wasn't highlighted.  The highlights still remain lighter, they just are a little more subtle.  This is what I do and I LOVE it.

  • If you're nervous about the color- I think it will look great and isn't too big of a jump.
Just show the picture if you can or even just tell her lauren conrad's hair color- she probably will know what it is like.
    Good luck!
