Anyone do this? Is it worth the money? TIA! :)

Re: Gymboree

  • Zoe is still sleeping and there is a class at 1pm I wanted to attend (1st session is free). I don't know if she will be awake in time. Only my child! :)

  • I've been taking Ava since she was 6 months old and she loves it as do I.  All the bright colors, singing and props make for great stimulation for the little ones.
  • Juliana has been going since she was 6 months and she loves it! That is like her 2nd home. She now takes 2 classes, music and play. I feel like she's learning a lot there since in the older classes, they teach concepts. Level 1 primarily focuses on motor development. I plan on taking Sophia when she's 4 months old.

  • Thanks for the feedback! We aren't going to make it to today's class since Zoe just woke up at noon, but maybe another day we will give it a try. :)

  • She also loves music so I think she will enjoy it!

Honestly I am not that impressed by it. I had a pass for a free month (which was a whopping 1 class per week at 40 minutes, I believe) but if I had to pay the monthly fee, I would be pretty disappointed. I was pretty surprised when I found out that the free month meant just 1 class per week, because initially I thought it meant that she could attend any and/or all of the 3 classes offered for her age group(I think they were scheduled for Wed, Fri, or Saturdays) But when I found out that the $50 per month was for 1 class per week at less than an hour each, plus an enrollment fee!.... I felt it was overpriced and not worth the money.

I took my daughter when she was 8 months old. The play is VERY directed, but to the point that my daughter got a little frustrated. For instance it would be time to climb on one piece of equipment and explore.... and just as she was beginning to explore on her own, we'd have to move on to the next activity. The short class time was good because of the age group, but the frequency was lacking IMO.

Anyway that was my take on it. Maybe it's better for older kids, but I didn't think the baby classes were all that great.

  • I've gone to two classes w/my sister and niece and felt like it wasn't worth the money.  However, I also pay big money to send her to daycare every day.

  • I've never seen a gymboree class, but the 40 minute class & monthly cost seems right on to me. That's about what dance class tuition would cost. I don't think it's overpriced, IMHO.

  • I agree about the cost.  However, I do think it is overpriced for playtime for kids who are getting their learning/stimulation/socialization elsewhere.  For my niece, it's great b/c she's at home all day.  For DD, it's kind of a waste - she learns and plays at school all day.

Very true! DD isn't in daycare yet so I am trying to think of ways to get us both out of the house. I'm making less money since I'm only PT. Between the California trip and our upcoming CT trip I am broke. I'd be fine if we didn't travel anywhere. I miss having my extra travel money! It's all worth it for me to only work PT though so I will have to get better at stretching every dollar to where I think is best.
