First day of school gift idea??

I want to give my students a small gift like a capri sun on the first day of school. Does anybody have a catchy note I can attach??

Re: First day of school gift idea??

  • I'm not a teacher, but I would think this might be one time that edible isn't best.  Depending on the age I'd suggest a pencil, eraser, pen, or a pencil gripper.  Food/drink for kids opens up so much for allergies and lifestyle choices.  I know several parents that would be upset at their kid getting this.  Especially from a teacher.

I wouldn't be exactly thrilled myself.  One Caprisun or any straight juice and we're changing my kid's clothes.

  • I agree with 6fsn, don't do food/drink in case of allergies.  This was not ever an issue when I was a child but now, people look for any reason to raise a stink and all it takes is 1 parent to get you in trouble for serving something without their permission.  I personally think people are way over the top and ridiculous these days but still not worth getting in trouble over.

I like the pencil/eraser or something they can use in the classroom is sufficient.  Maybe go to orientaltrading.com and look for something more giftish.

All this and BTW - they should be getting you something at holiday time and at the end of the year.  It is a nice gesture if you want to get the kids a pencil or something - but my goodness isn't expected and re: juice like Capri Sun I wouldn't want my child to have it either but I wouldn't raise a stink over it.  My doctor doesn't want my children (or myself) to have juice or high fructose corn syrup due to dietary concerns but I wouldn't raise a stink over it - probably just throw it out.

    Have a great year!

  • I also agree that non edible is best.

  • I always do a pencil and a "homework pass" (skip one night of homework) on the first day. I also provide snack, as I always get allergy alerts before school starts, but I always do fruit and water.

A pencil and a homework pass is a great idea!  Or what about a small sheet of stickers?
