Cleaning your diamond ring

How do you clean your diamond ring? My colleague recommended using a combination of ammonia and water to clean?

Re: Cleaning your diamond ring

  • I have always cleaned my rings this way. Soak them for an hour or so, and then brush gently under running water with an old toothbrush. Sparkling! The ammonia cuts through any soap residue that might accumulate in the crevices.
  • My jeweler told me to use hot water and Dawn dish detergent... and a toothbrush...works great.

  • I soak my ring in warm water with a few splashes of Windex. I use an old toothbrush under running water (like PP) and pat dry with a microfiber towel. Shines like new!

My appraiser told me the same thing.

I put Mr. Clean & water in a little spray bottle and spray the diamonds. Then I use a small toothbrush under warm water to scrub.

  • water and ammonia in pot and simmer...add diamond to simmering pot
  • I soak it in hot water with dish soap, then use a toothbrush to scrub it.  I have one of those steam cleaner things, but since we moved I don't have a place to leave it out and I always seem to find reasons to not set it up.
