It sounds way more glamorous if I just say "I'm buying a house" and don't explain that it's my grandmother's double wide mobile home, but ... it's a really nice one in good condition for a good price and my monthly expenses will total out to be cheaper than my current apartment, even with setting aside an incidentals fund, and it's 3x the space of my apartment.
AND I get to be reunited with my long lost friends Washing Machine and Dryer!
It's been in the works for a while, since my grandmother moved to an apartment, and I made a decision this week. Time to do paperwork, woo hoo.
I took Matt to check the place out and he approves, and already has a list of things we are going to do like painting over some of the 1990s grandma-style patterned walls, and refinishing the ugly colored countertops, lol. Theoretically, we eventually want to move it from its current location onto land and live there while building a house.
I'm hovering between excited and scared. Mostly excited though.
Re: AW ... buying a house!!
What an exciting/scary/awesome/fun time! Congrats! Paying towards something that will be YOURS is so much better than wasting time on rent!
So happy for you!
Yay, congrats!
We lived in a double wide for a few years and I still miss some things about it. The layout was pretty awesome (walk-in closet, I miss you dearly, and same floor washer/dryer) and it is way cheap for the amount of space.
Things I didn't like, the pink/blue color theme running throughout including the various forms of flowered wallpaper, blue countertops, and pink carpeting. That home was definitely a fashion victim of the 90s. Sounds like you're in a similar situation, but paint is cheap and easy to do yourself. Good luck & have fun with it!
Awesome! Congratulations!
DH and I bought our land and built our house while we were planning our wedding. It was definitely an exciting and scary process. Sounds like you two are building a good foundation together!
Congratulations...that's so exciting!
Please say "hi" to our mutual friends Washing Machine and Dryer for me...tell them I have missed them so and hope to be reunited with them again someday...I really don't mind renting for now, but not having free access to our own washer and dryer is one thing that bugs me.
So excited to meet Peanut this fall!
