Anyone been to the Pro Bowl?

DH and I were thinking about doing Hawaii over thanksgiving but have always wanted to go to the Pro Bowl so are thinking about going in January and killing two birds.

Anyone been? Thoughts? Best place to get tickets? Stuff to do around the weekend? Do hotels get stupid expensive? I'm hoping to cash in a huge number of Marriott points but am wondering if this is a big enough deal that Marriott would blackout those days?

Re: Anyone been to the Pro Bowl?

  • I am no help on Hawaii. I thought they were going to change the pro bowl to where they play the Super Bowl?

It returned to Hawaii this past year, because of a backlash from players and critics alike for having the game played in the same city as the Super Bowl.

  • I don't know if you'll check back here, but h and I went a few years ago.

They have a lot of events 2-3 days beforehand, where you can meet players and get autographs.  I think they're mostly free.

We got tickets off of ebay for a decent price, only a few rows from the field.  I wouldn't think they would black out the date- the stadium wasn't even full, I don't think it's a super popular event.  Be prepared to tailgate- there's some great tailgating.  We were actually there with a cw whose h is from Hawaii and they were there visiting his family.  His entire family tailgated, but h and I were the only ones that actually went into the game, lol.

There's so much to do- Pearl Harbor, hiking Diamondhead, watching surfers on the North Shore, the beaches in Waikiki.  We hiked around to a few different waterfalls- one was in a park, but two others were more off the beaten path.

I'm usually on ML, just page me if you have any other questions.
