Camden/Rockland real estate

Every Summer DH and I talk about how we love it up there and how we'd like to buck tradition in his family and buy a camp up there. Yeah, we couldn't use it every weekend, but it would feel more like a vacation that way. With all of the Camden talk going on lately, I mentioned it to DH again. With the possibility of a new job looming it seems like it could become a reality a lot sooner than we thought and we'd like to take advantage of the market sooner rather than later. We'll obviously meet with a realtor etc., but are there any recommendations in that area? Or stay away from....?? Idealy, we'd like something within walking distance to the harbor or stores, or at least biking distance. Something that feels close, but obviously nothing on the water since we're not made of money. Any little areas you local girls like?

Re: Camden/Rockland real estate

  • There is a great house across the street from me that is in foreclosure Stick out tongue

Not sure what you are really looking for, if its just a weekend thing then I'm not 100% sure where I would start.  Camden has some great stuff on the lake but that is going to be major $$$$.

If I were looking for something in Rockland I would stay away from the south end (just me but others may like it) its a little less than desirable.  Warren has some nice and I would think inexpensive "camps" but you aren't close to town like you want to be.

  • I was hoping you'd respond :) Hmmm foreclosure sounds nice, but we wont be buying for a few more months at least. Ideally, though we'd like to get something before snowfall in order to inspect etc.

It doesn't have to be a camp, just something small and nothing extravagant. We're thinking 2 bed, 1 bath, Something that can easily turn over when we come up there. Seems like everything we find are the $$$ places and we're just not quiet there in our lives yet :P I'd love to sell this place and move up there, but DH wont leave the Kennebunks. Ah, how nice it would be to be away from everyone and require a phone call for a visit :)

Good to know about the south end. Yeah, Warren is too far away. I'd loved the little neighborhoods around Mt. Battie, but I seem to only find rental info. Which, doesn't help me much now, but is nice to know rents etc. if we want to rent it in the off season or something.

    Thank you!!

  • In Camden you are going to spend a pretty penny regardless of the location, for some reason living in Camden is WAY more expensive than Rockland.  Rockland has higher property taxes (thank you city council and RSU 13).

The Foreclosure in my neighborhood hasn't been marketed yet so you might have a chance :)

New stuff is popping up on knox.villagesoup.com all the time

  • Thanks for the link! We've already found a couple that are interesting. One I liked on High St in Camden, but it's sold, boo :) I just noticed the tax difference though. I was looking at a house on Samoset and the taxes were pretty high, yet the actual house price wasn't bad. Thought our taxes here in Kennebunkport were high!
