Finding a Poem?

Does anyone have any advice on how to locate a poem whose author and title you do not know?

My grandma just passed away, and my family is trying to locate a copy of her two favorite poems. Both were German poems that she had memorized as a child, but she knew the English translation too. I know it's awful that I don't know the name or author, but I guess we never asked.

One is about a forget-me-not and the other begins with the line "if many a man". I know that's, like nothing to go on, but it's all I've got right now.

Can you suggest any sites I can check? I've been trying Google but didn't get very far.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can offer.

Re: Finding a Poem?

  • Ok, I found both poems, but one of them I could only find in German. I tried putting it into Babel Fish, but the translation came through kinda funky, so I think I need to find a real translation rather than a computer one.

Here's the only I have only in German:

Here's the one I found in English:

Many a man goes where many a man is.
Many a man knows not who many a man is.
If many a man knew who many a man be
Many a man would many a man honor with glee.
