Has anyone had crown lengthening done? (dental procedure)
I'm so not happy about this. I had a root canal a few weeks ago. I was supposed to get it done when I was about 35 weeks pg, but then dentist refused to do it (even though I had consent from my ob). Anyway, the root canal was no picnic b/c I nurse so I only had novacaine (no ephinephrine) and tylenol. I had to go back the next week for a post, then last week for a temporary crown, then today to have the permanent crown put on. Well, before she put in the crown, she took an xray and saw there was a gap and said that I have to get a crown lengthening done at a periodontist. I am above my yearly max so now I have to wait until January. The procedure sounds very painful and expensive. Anyone ever go through this? Was it very painful?
Re: Has anyone had crown lengthening done? (dental procedure)
I had it done to the upper and lower parts of my mouth in the front where your canine and front teeth are. After I had my braces off, the orthodontist and periodontist wanted me to have it done since I had very small chicklet teeth.
Honestly, I didn't feel it during the procedure at all. I was under conscious sedation so I could still hear them and move my head when they asked, but I didn't feel a thing. It was after that it really hurt, I had stitches on my upper and lower gums and it was more of a sore feeling than a pain. You will have to eat soft, bland food for a few days (apple sauce, mashed potatoes, yogurt and milkshakes...lots of cold milkshakes). I had a large amount done at one time, but all in all it wasn't a terrible experience.
Good luck Myst, let me know if you have any other questions!
I had it done 6-7 years ago and I just remember it feeling weird after (mostly b/c of the stitches). Impacted wisdom teeth removal was WAY worse... crown lengthening was a piece of cake compared to that
Make sure they give you antibiotics before hand. I have no idea how much it cost- I know I took out a student loan while in grad school to pay for it, though.
