Best Savings Accounts?

SO currently DH and I have a few different bank accounts. At a local small bank we have a joint checking and savings as well as two individual checking accounts. Then we have a checking account we used for saving for the wedding at a Wells Fargo bank. We chose Wells Fargo because they had a location in Key West where we could take out cash for the wedding while we were there. It worked out great having it at a seperate bank because it was hard to transfer the money so there was less temptation.

Now we are thinking of closing this account and using the leftover money to start a savings account at a bank seperate from our local bank so again there is no temptation and its easier to save. I have heard some good things about the ING Direct Orange savings accounts which are all online and have higher interest rates, I was looking for reviews or suggestions on other high interest savings accounts. We are trying to bulk up our emergency savings and also start preparing for when I will become a SAHM in a few years! Any savings advice would be great! Thanks ladies!

Re: Best Savings Accounts?

  • I don't have any suggestions for other accounts, but I use ING and I like it. The fact that it takes about 3 days to actually get the money, after you decide to transfer it back to an account you can draw from, really helps to curb temptation.

  • We are using Bank of America for our savings account, which we currently do not contribute too but we have keep the change from BOA so all of that goes in there.  We each of our seperate checkings accounts and then a joint account for now at least.

This is something DH and I have talked about as well as investments...but we are torn between using a good friend of ours that would be very professional or using someone we don't know.

  • Have you looked into credit unions? They usually have better interest rates compared to banks. The other thing to look into is CDs. They sometimes cam have really good rates, but there are some draw backs to them too.

  • Ok I love that it takes 3 days to transfer the money out of a ING account, that makes you really think about whether you need to take your money out of savings. I didn't realize that and I like it. But it is prob a good idea to also look at some credit unions, I know my company has one maybe I will check it out and see what their rates are. Thanks!

  • I have an ING account that I need to start using again. I like them it's pretty easy to use and like you said it lowers temptation to use it because it does take about 3 days to transfer to your account so you can use it if you need to but because it takes longer you're less likely :)
