San Diego Nesties....come on in!!!

I'm looking for some good restaurant recommendations for the San Diego area.  Closer to MCRD/Sea World area.

I am trying to find a place to take my husband and our families to celebrate his graduation.  Not looking for anything fancy; just a fun place and good food!

  • I don't live there, but my husband is from there and we used to visit all the time. Guadalajaras in Old Town is to die for. We CRAVE their food.

  • Old Town is a great rec. Super close, not sketchy (right by the RD is a bit sketchy), good food, and cute to walk around.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • Closer to the RD are Wine Steals (great sandwiches and pizzas and wine/beer but all people in attendance need to be 21+); Corvette Diner (fun, burger type joint, more of a kid friendly place; noisy; not fancy); Tender Greens (good food, casual); Pt Loma Sports Bar (the name kind of tells you what you need to know; Solare (more upscale, italian restaurant); Ekiru Sushi (not sure if they work for groups or not); Sammy's Woodfired Pizza (pizza, salads); and The Tin Fish (not fancy fish joint). Those are all in Liberty Station.

There's also a place called Bali Hai not terribly far away in the Point Loma area that's fun - kind of an upscale Hawaiian place - not fancy but the prices indicate a more upscale meal to me. It's fun though and has a very pretty view.

  • I like the Broken Yolk.  Its over near Garnet Ave somewhere, been awhile since we've gone there.  Good breakfasts, not sure about the other meals.

  • Go to The Cottage in La Jolla,,,it has been voted best in San Diego a few times...it is amazing...and close, other than that The Menu next to Sea World is good, but they only serve breakfast.  As far as chains go, Claim Jumper is good as well as Sonnie's.
