our trip to boston fell thru as my sister's new home fell behind schedule and she was due to move in the middle of our planned visit...so staycation it became.
monday and tuesday - ava went to my ILs and SIL took her to her camp for one day and ILs entertained her the other one. We all had dinner together each night. Samantha and I took off Wednesday-Friday to join Ava for the rest of her vacation week.
On Wednesday, we went to Lake Nanuet and swam, ate, swam, played. when dh got home, we went out to dinner at cb kitchen and bar in new city. ava didn't like the kids mac and cheese, the mild wings we ordered were too spicy for ava and dh, and ava also didn't like the steak on grilled garlic bread that we ordered to share. she ate the bowl of beignets - because they were both good and she was starving. i don't think we'd go back - food wasn't great and i'm less picky than the other two. not enough choices for them.
Thursday, my aunt took off and joined me, Ava and Samantha and we drove to Pt Pleasant. We rented a "cabana" at I'm A Local Cafe and Cabana Club - $7 per adult got us the cabana (closet sized small, but room to change, nurse a baby in private, and store stuff not taking onto the beach), access to the hot showers and access to their clean toilets all day. It was cheap and clean and perfect. It's at the very end of the boardwalk, so we were really focused on the beach and water and relaxing. After we showered and cleaned up and repacked up, we walked the 5 min to the boardwalk - had dinner, enjoyed the kids rides, ate ice cream, etc. Perfect day trip!
It was Samantha's first time at the beach and she loved it. I would hold her and dip her toes in the waves and she'd squeal. And she'd cry when we would go back to our blankets. And third time's teh charm - it was Ava's 3rd time on a beach and she finally loved it! She had a lot of confidence and she just wanted to keep going further and further into the water and was so excited to play in the waves and make sand castles.
I planned to rent umbrellas, but they weren't renting that day since it was breezy enough to feel cool. True. But I was worried about sun and the kids. We made a ghetto tent from the stroller we hadn't planned to drag to the beach and some chairs and extra towels. i should probably just buy an umbrella and plan to shlep it next time. plenty of people brought their own, so it wasn't like it was too windy for them at all.
You'd think my kids would be exhausted from an awesome day. But you can bet that woke up at 4:45am on Friday ![]()
Friday, we had a picnic lunch at my aunt's house, then went to Van Saun Zoo. After walking the zoo, we took the train ride (Sam's first!) and then Ava and I went on the carousel. Then we drove to Westchester to my cousin's for dinner with them and another aunt and uncle.
They both slept until 8am this morning - much better! Just got back from getting Ava a haircut. Our playdate at Lake Nanuet was cancelled because our friend's kids got sick. I feel bad, but I could use a morning to sit on my a$$.
Now to figure out plans for today and tomorrow....I'm so tired!
