Hi ladies,
I admit I'm a lurker on this board--was active on TK during my wedding and now active on TB. Thinking ahead to our little one due at the end of the year, I'd like to get back into sewing and maybe start quilting. Hoping you can help me with some suggestions, pretty please!
1) I want to make my own box pleat crib skirt and possibly other nursery items (won't attempt the fitted sheet and am skipping a bumper)--anyone have suggestions for favorite/easy baby bedding or nursery patterns?
2) I love this baby quilt at PB (http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/3066834/popup/more-views.html), but don't love the price at all, plus it would be more special to make my own--any suggestions on how to go about appliqueing Peter Rabbit characters myself?
Thanks ladies, I really appreciate your advice!
Re: Baby bedding patterns and Peter Rabbit quilt - thoughts?
I ended up making my own pattern for the box pleat crib skirt, it's not hard, just involves some math and trial and error.
Also, the fitted sheets are VERY easy to make, just take two yards of fabric and sew elastic around the entire thing (leaving the selvedges on and hemming the other two ends).
On appliqueing, I just started and it's been a little overwhelming for me. I would suggest taking a class if you can.

I am also sewing for a LO due at Christmas. Here is a link to my pinterest page where I'm collecting my to make for baby ideas.

2) I have tried some applique and agree that it can be very frustrating. If you don't mind fraying edges then you can use heat n bond to adhere the individual pieces to your background and then use a striaght or zig-zag stich to sew them down. I used this technique to create an ABC book for my niece last Christmas. The tutorial I used is linked in my blog.
If you're not feeling up to applique, I found fabric meant for a cloth Peter rabbit book. You could probably just make it into quilt squares instead.

Our church nursery is Peter Rabbit themed, and whoever decorated it used the above fabric to make a quilt. It's cute.
