Plans before Babies!

So DH and I aren't planning on TTC for 3-4 years and we decided we were going to pick 5 vacations we wanted to go on in these years before we have a baby and travel becomes more limited. These are the ones we came up with:

 1) Bitter End Yacht Club Resort in BVI. We love sailing and this would be the ultimate.

2) Hawaii, we want to visit Turtle Bay resort thats featured on the movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" in Oahu and DH also wants to visit Kona.

3)Belize. Which is being checked off on our Honeymoon!

4)Costa Rica for surfing and deep sea fishing.

What should location #5 be? We need suggestions!

Does anyone else have a pre-baby bucket list that they want to do before they have kids? I want to see whats on other peoples!

Re: Plans before Babies!

  • What about somewhere in Europe? Since the other places on your list are all tropical. We don't have a list since we are ttc now, but I love the idea behind. We plan to still travel a lot with baby h, so I don't plan on our vacations stopping!
  • I like this idea :)  I don't have any ideas, but I just told Brian today that I don't think we'll ever have kids because every day we come up with something else we want to do, haha.

I agree with this.  It sounds like you guys are beach people so why not a European beach.  There are some amazingly beautiful places.

  • I would also like to throw Maine out there.  I would LOVE to go to Maine in the summer.  I think it looks beautiful.  (I think it's also from reading Stephen King books)  Matt had a friend who was up there until a few months ago. I was determined to visit him but he moved!  BOO!

Maine is gorgeous! A good friend of ours has a beach house up there and its beautiful. We also went to Bar Harbor a few years ago, hiking up the mountains with the views of the ocean is amazing, I HIGHLY recommend going there.

I was thinking somewhere in europe, maybe the french riviera or one of the greek isles, has anyone been to any beachy european location?

  • DH and I have a list before we have babies too.  We are on about the same timeframe 3 to 5 years before we have babies.  We would like to go to Hawaii for sure and then maybe  Australia/New Zealand, a cruise (which I have never beeno n before), and a few other islands.

I LOVE babies but I can't wait to have babies in the future!

  • I was gonna suggest the Greek Isles. Family friends of ours have nothing but amazing things to say about them! I think the French Riviera has to be amazing too. Our list is this:

    1. Hawaii definitely! Not sure where yet but we have a friend who has a condo in Maui so maybe we can steal that for a weekend.

    2. Italy- I am 50% Italian and speak a little Italian, so this would definitely be a dream for me! Plus DH went to culinary school so he really appreciates amazing Italian food.

    3. St. Lucia - I have always wanted to go there and we are thinking possibly there or Jamaica for the next vacation

    4. South Africa - This may be later in the future but I would love to go there!

    5. Costa Rica - We considered having our wedding there but then didn't...we both still really want to go there!

Otherwise any tropical location where I can lay on the beach by beautiful water and sip cocktails is good for me!

  • We are on a 3-4 year plan for babies also.  Since your other vacations are all tropical, I was going to suggest Europe as well.  Like the Greek Isles maybe?  Or Italy.  Or if you want to do a totally different vacation I was thinking something along the lines of Alaska.

    Our list is:

Alaska - This was going to be our next big vacation next year.  Now that I'm in school full time I think it will be pushed back at least a year. Bummer.

Hawaii - We went there for our honeymoon and it was AWESOME.  We've considered going back there instead of Alaska. Not sure yet.

Vegas - I know this is a cheesy one but we really want to go.  Neither of us have been.  I'm thinking next summer for this one but who knows.

We also want to do England/Ireland, Mediteranean cruise, and Australia.

If money were no option our list would be 10 times this size.  But realistically we'll probably only get 1 or 2 big vacations in before we have kids.

  • Risa I went to South Africa and Botswana in college and it was amazing. We went on Safari and we saw every kind of animal you can imagine, I think its somewhere everyone should visit at some point. I def want to go back with DH when our kids are in college with them like my parents brought me.

Amanda Australia is definately on our list but its on the long one. But we definately want to go diving and surfing there. Prob more like our 20 year anniversary and leave the kids with the grandparents or something. That will def be a non-kid trip! Haha.

Alaska is an awesome idea! I think an Alaskan Cruise would be a great one to add to the list!

  • We want to do a cruise also!  I've heard the ones that go northbound and southbound one way, instead of the roundtrip ones are better because you get to see more :)

  • A lotta people around here go on alaska cruises but I would rather fly there then get on a smaller boat to see the glaciers up close (The big cruise ships can't get into all the same areas). FI and I also won't be TTC for 3 more years maybe so if I could go anywhere I'd go to :

    Turks & Caicos

    Tahiti or Bora Bora

He wants to go to Belguim to watch Formula one racing

I'd LOVE to see Switzerland - lake lucerne is so pretty

    Paris would be awesome

I'd love to take that underwater Channel Tunnel from the UK to France

Thailand - phuket seems so pretty and i love that it's cheap when you get there

Realistically before we have kids we should get to go to:

Austin, TX (the only US F1 track is opening there so FI has to go)

    Arches national park in utah

    Banff, British columbia

    Glacier national park montana

There are a few things on my list that are on yours too.  We will go to Austin to see F1.  I lived there for 4 years and Matt loves F1.  I think he went to the Canada race a long time ago.  I would want to go to Monaco for a race. :)

We will also do the chunnel from London to Paris at some point.  We were supposed to do that this summer but Matt got a new job.  Perks of having family live in both places.

  • That's awsesome you have family over there! I hear austin is a ton of fun! Nick wanted to go to the montreal race before he knew about the austin track. It'd be neat if we went at the same time! Monaco looks so luxurious, all those yachts!
