Heading to Hartford!

This board looks pretty dead but I'm heading to Hartford for work for a week. What should I make sure to do? I get to bring my husband which is amazing and we are just interested in eating, drinking, and walking! What can we do?

Re: Heading to Hartford!

  • There are tons of great restaurants and bars in downtown Hartford.  Where are you going to be?  I worked downtown for about 10 years so I've seen most of it.
  • DISH is a really good restaurant.

  • i might be too late, but there are tons of good places to eat and drink around Hartford.  in downtown Hartford, there's Bin 228 (a panini & wine bar), Agave, Hot Tomatos, Trumbull Kitchen, City Steam (a brewery), Dish (as PP mentioned), Salute, Max Downtown (probably the best, but most expensive, place), Zula, Morton's Steakhouse and Vaughn's (irish pub) all easily within walking distance.  If you have a car, there's also Peppercorn and Firebox (which is really good, but it's in a dangerous area, so do not walk!)

definitely check out Blue Back Square and West Hartford Center.  it's not walking distance from Hartford, but you can take a taxi if you want.  there are some absolutely amazing restaurants and bars...Besito (upscale mexican, by far my favorite place in the area), Flemings (steak),  Max Oyster (fish), Bricco (italian, the best around!), Treva (more italian, they have a fresh mozz bar!), Uncorked (if you like wine, it's a wine tasting bar), Rizzuto's (more italian), Cheesecake Factory, Umi (conveyor belt sushi), McLadden's (irish pub), Elbow Room (american, they have a rooftop bar and dining area), Max Burger and many others.

if you do have a car and you want great burgers (i'm not a huge Max Burger fan, myself), check out a place called Plan B over on Park Road.  another good place a little off the beaten path is Tisane (it's a coffee/tea spot during the day and a great restaurant/bar at night...excellent martinis and asian fushion food).

know that on Thurs-Sat nights, you really will have to make reservations if you don't want to wait for a table at most places.  a lot of the places i listed to participate in Opentable though, which makes it really easy.  have fun!
