Romantic Weekend Trip Ideas?

DH and I 5 year anniversary is coming up and we are going to go away for the weekend. Any good romantic places to go? Not the cities and not Duluth as we went there for our anniversary. Within a couple hour drive.

Re: Romantic Weekend Trip Ideas?

  • I loved staying in a historic suite at the St. James Hotel in Red Wing.  Our bathroom had a huge whirlpool tub.  It was an easy drive and Red Wing is cute (like a smaller Stillwater).  We ate at Jimmy's Pub which was dark and cozy.  There is also a spa connected to the hotel if you're looking to get massages.

  • We like to go up to Brainerd and stay at GrandView lodge.  It's on the water, DH likes to golf and they have a nice spa.

Also, I love the St. James idea.

  • Wisconsin Dells isn't too far, although I'm not sure what all romantic options there.  I know that there's a lot to do though.
  • Last year we went for my birthday to the St. Croix River Inn in Osceola - less than an hour from the cities. It was amazing. There's great shopping in Taylors Falls I hear (we didn't get there) and we had an unbelievable dinner in St. Croix Falls at Grecco's. So amazing!

  • I've always been intrigued by the original Lutsen Lodge right on Lake Superior.  It is old, historic, and just cool.  With full disclosure, I have never stayed there but I want to!

We're going to the Dells later this week for our anniversary. There are several spas in the area if you want to do a couples massage. We're planning to do a water park one day, take a boat tour, and maybe rent a jet ski. There's also a winery and several parks nearby, plus Lake Delton. Not sure if that's your thing, but there is plenty to do there.

  • Thank you, we ended up deciding on Lanesboro as I fell in love with it.
