We are home! Our trip was definitely too short. We were offered a special deal through Westin, which was for 5 nights and we stayed in a cheap-o hotel the first night near the airport since our flight didn't get in until about 10 pm. I would recommend to anyone that this is NOT enough time in Maui.
We bought the Maui Revealed app for our iPhones since we could not find the book in our area. It was invaluable. It has a "map it" feature as well as a GPS tracking device to go along with the guidebook. We used it a ton.
CurlyGirl - your advice was awesome, we did so much of what you said. DH absolutely died over the burgers at Cool Cats (so much so we had to have lunch there again on our last day). We loved the Hula pie - good thing I didn't try it until close to the end of our trip or I would have had to have it every day
I also had a couple of Shave Ice from Local Boy's which was so yummy and refreshing for the hot days.
As far as Activities: We did a drive up to the Blow-hole and stopped at Honolua Bay on the way back to the hotel for some snorkling, which was pretty good. You parked basically on the side of the road and walked into it. It had a rocky beach.
We suffered through a time-share presentation (brutal!), however it got us a $36 dinner cruise and 45 minute helicopter tour for $100 each (regular $250). The dinner cruise was good, the food was mediocre at best, but the boat was awesome at sunset and to see the island from a different view.
We drove the Road to Hana, well DH drove! We took CurlyGirl's advice and powered up all the way to the Seven Sacred Pools which was great. We were basically the only ones there particularly when we climbed up some of the rocks to get to the upper pool (yes, I did that at 7 months pregnant!). When we were leaving it was starting to get super busy. We putzed around at the Black Sand beach area and made a few other short stops on the way back home. We ate lunch at this amazing place on the side of the road where a woman was basically BBQ-ing and cooking with a camp stove out in her yard - Braddah Hutts BBQ Grill. We shared a shrimp pasta that was so incredibly good and for $13 was more than enough food for the two of us to share.
The day we did our Helicopter tour we also drove up to the Haleakala Crater. We did not feel like getting up at 3 am so we didn't go for sunrise just to take a tour of it, it's crazy all the different landscapes you can see on Maui.
We managed to get tickets to the Old Lahaina Luau before we left, and it lived up to the hype.
We also spent a day just hanging out along the beach and snorkling. There was a free shuttle between the Westin's so we took it to the Westin hotel, sat around the pool there for awhile then made our way past Black Rock back to our Westin Villas and just hung out on the beach/snorkled for the day.
Our last day, yesterday, we had to check out at 11 am, but our Flight wasn't until 10 pm, so we spent some more time in Lahaina and then hung out around the pool at our hotel reading and swimming and relaxing.
It was definitely a whirl-wind vacation. Feel free to ask if you have any questions at all!
We are doing some laundry tonight and packing up our Trailer to head out camping in BC until Saturday, so the holiday-ing continues!
