Kid ice cream party
I'm starting to brainstorm my son's 3rd bday party. He loves ice cream so I thought that would be a great theme. I found this blog that has some cute ideas but no real instructions. I've seen instructions for the ice cream cone cupcakes and I think I can figure out the balloons and the cake with the cone (I think the adults would rather have a cake).
I saw instructions for making ice cream with basic ingredients and coffee cans. I thought that might be a fun activity. Since it will just be cousins I'd say that's about all I need for activity.
Any ideas for other decor? Favors?
I'm also taking ideas for food. It's just a family party so there will be about 8 kids and 20 adults. The party is September at 1. I'd really like to keep it simple. People will be driving a couple of hours so I want enough to fill. One year was pulled pork another was soups and sloppy joes. I'm not opposed to a baked pasta, but SIL did that at her last party. My sister did tacos at her last one. So any food inspiration?

Easy group entrees that come to mind are: Chicken/pork on a stick, Grilled wings, Brats, Italian Sausage, Italian Beef Sandwiches and a deli sandwich platter. I still consider Sept grilling weather but in case you didnt want to actually do the cooking with everyone there, the Italian Beef and Sausages & sandwiches would work.
Love the ice cream theme though! I'm a huge ice cream fan
For favors you could do an ice cream bowl (I think I've seen them at the $1 store in the $1 section at Target) and fill it with hard individually wrapped candy and wrap with cellophane. I think I've seen Baskin Robin flavored life savers (or something hard like that) at the drug store.

Also -re Ice Cream theme - could you have an Ice Cream Truck visit your house? My friends did this for their daughter's 1st Communion and it only cost about 60.00.

Oriental trading has ice cream dishes. They are a little over $1 a piece.

Here is the link to my DD 1st Birthday Ice Cream Social. Lots of decor ideas. I made a ton of yarn Ice Cream Balls attached to real cones:
We had a build your own ice cream sundae bar and a root beer float bar. I made chocolate ice cream and mint chocolate chip. I purchased vanilla ice cream at Costco.
For the favors I melted white dipping chocolate and rolled the tops of ice cream cones into it then into jimmies. I filled them with party blowers, stickers, gumballs and red vines and wrapped them in cello bags:
I have made the Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes...super easy.
I also LOVE ice cream cake cupcakes. Here is my recipe.
At this shower the theme was Pickles and Ice Cream. I gave away as game prizes ice Cream scoops from Ikea with a jar of ice cream topping. There is also a little pack of pickles in there which you of course would not need!
I found a lot of ceramic ice cream themed stuff at CVS of all places.

That's awesome jj thank you! I love the yarn cones and even have similar vases already. I guess I need to start stocking up on yarn and ice cream cones. I think I could hang those from the dining room chandelier and the ceiling fans in the gazebo and screened porch.
I'll have to also just keep my eyes open. I'm always in cvs.
You just got a bunch of AMAZING ideas from jj, but wanted to add this super cute photo to the mix.
I wanted to make a quick comment on here. My friends 3 year old choked on a hard candy and they are lucky they are doctors and knew what to do. Yes, I know this is rare and not what they do, but I know a few people who do not permit their three year olds to have hard candy. Not all parents may like this idea. Maybe cotton candy stuffed in cones for a favor? You may also want to consider a non-edible favor.
I also love ice cream and I think this is a great party idea that will be lots of fun!
